Research on Children with Disabilities Influences Education Policy in Pakistan
Children who face multiple disadvantages including those related to disability are among those least likely to be learning. Using large-scale household data together with qualitative data from classrooms in rural Pakistan, researchers from the University of Cambridge, UK and the Institute of Development and Economic Alternatives (IDEAS), Pakistan have gained a picture of how many children with disabilities attend school, and what factors affect their learning. This research is shaping key policy debates on education, inclusion and disability.ESRC-DFI
Physics Informed Recurrent Neural Networks for Seismic Response Evaluation of Nonlinear Systems
Dynamic response evaluation in structural engineering is the process of
determining the response of a structure, such as member forces, node
displacements, etc when subjected to dynamic loads such as earthquakes, wind,
or impact. This is an important aspect of structural analysis, as it enables
engineers to assess structural performance under extreme loading conditions and
make informed decisions about the design and safety of the structure.
Conventional methods for dynamic response evaluation involve numerical
simulations using finite element analysis (FEA), where the structure is modeled
using finite elements, and the equations of motion are solved numerically.
Although effective, this approach can be computationally intensive and may not
be suitable for real-time applications. To address these limitations, recent
advancements in machine learning, specifically artificial neural networks, have
been applied to dynamic response evaluation in structural engineering. These
techniques leverage large data sets and sophisticated algorithms to learn the
complex relationship between inputs and outputs, making them ideal for such
problems. In this paper, a novel approach is proposed for evaluating the
dynamic response of multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) systems using
physics-informed recurrent neural networks. The focus of this paper is to
evaluate the seismic (earthquake) response of nonlinear structures. The
predicted response will be compared to state-of-the-art methods such as FEA to
assess the efficacy of the physics-informed RNN model
The Effect Of Situational Leadership And Motivation On Employee Performance Mediated By Job Satisfaction (Case Study In The Pharmacy Industry)
This study aims to explore the effect of situational leadership and motivation on employee performance through the mediation of job satisfaction in the pharmaceutical industry. This study is a development of previous research that has been conducted in the banking industry. The contribution of this research is expected to have managerial implications in the pharmaceutical industry when a leader has a situational leadership style who can build communication, provide clear directions, and divide tasks among employees, and when employees have high motivation they can feel satisfied. work to improve performance. The sample of this research is employees who work in several pharmaceutical industries in the Bekasi industrial area, West Java. The sample criteria in this study were employees with more than 1 year of service, working in marketing, PPIC, logistics, and production with positions ranging from staff to supervisor. Respondents were selected proportionally using the purposive sampling method. Data was obtained through a questionnaire distributed online. Data analysis technique using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with LISREL. From the research conducted, there are findings that motivation does not have a positive effect on employee performance, however, motivation can have a positive effect on employee performance through a mediator variable, namely, job satisfaction
