Self-wiring in neural nets of point-like cortical neurons fails to reproduce cytoarchitectural differences
We propose a model for description of activity-dependent evolution and
self-wiring between binary neurons. Specifically, this model can be used for
investigation of growth of neuronal connectivity in the developing neocortex.
By using computational simulations with appropriate training pattern sequences,
we show that long-term memory can be encoded in neuronal connectivity and that
the external stimulations form part of the functioning neocortical circuit. It
is proposed that such binary neuron representations of point-like cortical
neurons fail to reproduce cytoarchitectural differences of the neocortical
organization, which has implications for inadequacies of compartmental models.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figure
Preliminary results: the role of plant characteristics in the resistance of white cabbage to onion thrips
Developing methods for testing the resistance of white cabbage against Thrips tabaci
Since the damage of the onion thrips (Thrips tabaci Lindemann) first occurred on white cabbage in Hungary several observations have been carried out, both in Hungary and abroad, to assess varietal resistance. The use of a new evaluation method for field screening is described and the result of the monitoring of 64 varieties is reported. The most susceptible varieties were ‘Bejo 1860’, ‘SG 3164’, ‘Quisto’, ‘Green Gem’ and ‘Ramada’. On the other hand, ‘Golden Cross’, ‘Balashi’, ‘Riana’, ‘Autumn Queen’, ‘Leopard’, Ama-Daneza’ and ‘Galaxy’ suffered the least damage under natural infestation. Methods for testing the patterns of resistance are also described and evaluated. In case of plants at the few leaf growth stage significant negative correlation was found between egg mortality and the egg laying preference of adults. The results of the other antibiotic and antixenotic tests were greatly affected by differences in the physiological age and condition of the varieties
Means of environment-friendly protection of white cabbage against the onion thrips
ősz folyamán is értékelt fajta a későbbi időszakban megfigyelt kisebb károsodása szemlélteti.
A rendkívül ellenálló Autumn Queen F1 fajta esetében az időzítésnek nem volt kimutatható
hatása a kialakult csekély kártételre
Susceptibility of raspberry cultivars to the raspberry cane midge (Resseliella theobaldi BARNES)
During the 2004 growing season, five raspberry cultivars were evaluated in terms
of their susceptibility to the raspberry cane midge (Resseliella theobaldi Barnes). The
trial was carried out at Berkenye, Nógrád County, Hungary. The cultivars evaluated
were ‘Rubaca’ from Germany, ‘Fertődi Zamatos’ from Hungary, ‘Tulameen’ from
Canada, and ‘Autumn Bliss’ and ‘Golden Bliss’ from the United Kingdom. Every
other week, twenty-five split primocanes of each cultivar were randomly collected for
laboratory examination. Data recorded for each cultivar included the mean number of
larvae, the mean split length, and the mean extent of bark peeling per primocane.
Pearson’s linear correlation coefficients were calculated for the correlations between
the annual mean number of larvae per primocane on the one hand, and the annual
cumulative mean split length per primocane and annual mean extent of bark peeling
per primocane on the other hand. There was a weak correlation between annual mean
number of larvae and annual cumulative mean split length, and a stronger correlation
between annual mean number of larvae and annual mean extent of bark peeling.
Annual mean number of larvae per primocane and annual mean extent of bark peeling
per primocane were both highest in ‘Rubaca’, which means that the number of larvae
per cane largely depends on the extent of stem peeling, although longitudinal splitting
may also play a role. Therefore, cultivars with hardly any bark peeling and few and
small longitudinal splits can be presumed to be less susceptible to infestation by the
raspberry cane midge. Using these criteria, the least susceptible of the five cultivars
evaluated would be ‘Tulameen’ and ‘Fertődi Zamatos’. Further research is needed to
confirm this conclusion and to gather data on other factors which affect cultivar
choice for new plantations, including winter hardiness, and susceptibility to cane
diseases
The importance of cultivar in the protection against raspberry cane midge (Resseliella theobaldi /Barnes/)
Stochastic Dynamics of Time Correlations in Complex Systems with Discrete Time
In this paper we present the concept of description of random processes in
complex systems with the discrete time. It involves the description of kinetics
of discrete processes by means of the chain of finite-difference non-Markov
equations for time correlation functions (TCF). We have introduced the dynamic
(time dependent) information Shannon entropy where i=0,1,2,3,... as an
information measure of stochastic dynamics of time correlation and time
memory (i=1,2,3,...). The set of functions constitute the quantitative
measure of time correlation disorder and time memory disorder
(i=1,2,3,...) in complex system. Harnessing the infinite set of orthogonal
dynamic random variables on a basis of Gram-Shmidt orthogonalization procedure
tends to creation of infinite chain of finite-difference non-Markov kinetic
equations for discrete TCF and memory function. The solution of the equations
above thereof brings to the recurrence relations between the TCF and MF of
senior and junior orders. The results obtained offer considerable scope for
attack on stochastic dynamics of discrete random processes in a complex
systems. Application of this technique on the analysis of stochastic dynamics
of RR-intervals from human ECG's shows convincing evidence for a non-Markovian
phenomemena associated with a peculiarities in short and long-range scaling.
This method may be of use in distinguishing healthy from pathologic data sets
based in differences in these non-Markovian properties.Comment: 20 pages, RevTeX, 1 table, 2 eps figure
DMP online: the Digital Curation Centre’s web-based tool for creating, maintaining and exporting data management plans
Funding bodies increasingly require researchers to produce Data Management Plans (DMPs). The Digital Curation Centre (DCC) has created DMP Online, a web-based tool which draws upon an analysis of funders’ requirements to enable researchers to create and export customisable DMPs, both at the grant application stage and during the project’s lifetime
Fejeskáposzta-fajták ellenállósága a dohánytripsszel szemben
2004-ben és 2005-ben 22 fejeskáposzta-fajta dohánytripsz ellenállóságát értékeltem hazánkban két helyszínen, a fejet alkotó leveleken kialakult kártétel alapján. Minden fajta esetében 10 betakarításra érett káposztafej valamennyi károsított levelén feljegyeztem a károsodott terület nagyságát a teljes levéloldal felületének arányában. A fajták ellenállóságának jellemzésére ezeknek a levelenként fel-jegyzett értékeknek az összegeként képzett mérő-számot használtam, ami a fej belsejében kialakult összes kártételt fejezi ki. Az értékelések során a károsított fejlevek számát is feljegyeztem, amit szintén felhasználtam a fajták ellenállóságának jellemzésére. Minden fajtán kialakult kisebb-nagyobb kár-tétel. Mindazonáltal, a Balashi F1, a Bloktor F1 és a Bravo F1 fajták károsodtak a legkisebb mértékben, ezért ezeket a fajtákat a dohánytripsszel szemben rezisztensnek minősítettem. Megállapítottam, hogy az értékelések helyszíne és évjárata is befolyásolta ugyanazon fajták esetében kialakult kártétel mérté-két
