The influence of transverse acoustic oscillations on contraction of the glow discharge
The results of investigations of the interaction of longitudinal acoustic waves with electric gas discharge. Describes the phenomenon the formation of vortex flows in the acoustic gas discharge under the influence of a standing acoustic longitudinal waves. The phenomenon of occurrence vortex in the presence of transverse acoustic oscillations of the first tangential mode are analyzed. Presents the rationale of effective influence of the transverse acoustic oscillations on the glow discharge, which leads to the preservation of its diffuse form and, consequently, improve the energy input in the CO 2-laser. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd
Spectral signatures of the Luttinger liquid to charge-density-wave transition
Electron- and phonon spectral functions of the one-dimensional,
spinless-fermion Holstein model at half filling are calculated in the four
distinct regimes of the phase diagram, corresponding to an attractive or
repulsive Luttinger liquid at weak electron-phonon coupling, and a band- or
polaronic insulator at strong coupling. The results obtained by means of kernel
polynomial and systematic cluster approaches reveal substantially different
physics in these regimes and further indicate that the size of the phonon
frequency significantly affects the nature of the quantum Peierls phase
transition.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures; final version, accepted for publication in

Transverse acoustic oscillations in cylindrical chambers with the radial temperature gradient
In this article the transverse acoustic oscillations in cylindrical chambers with a radial temperature gradient are considered. Expression for the velocity potential is calculated. This expression describes the free transverse oscillations in cylindrical chamber with radial temperature gradient
The Inexpensive Injection of Mini-Satellites into GEO
CST has undertaken several studies of the methods available for the launch of GEMINI-1, a 400 kg test satellite being built by Surrey Satellite Technologies Ltd. (SSTL) in collaboration with Nigeria, for the BNSC which have included it their MOSAIC UK small satellite programme. The results of these studies with cost comparisons will be presented in the paper. It will be shown that the cost/kg of placing a mini satellite into GEO need not be any more than that for larger satellites and in some special circumstances may be significantly cheaper. This interesting result could have far reaching consequences for the communication marketplace and technologies. It could also encourage research and development, innovation and independence
The model of the positive column of a glow discharge with the influence of the acoustic oscillations
© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd. In article the model of the positive column of a glow discharge with the influence of acoustic waves is developed. It is shown that the radial convective flow caused by the acoustic streaming leads to a redistribution of the gas temperature, and reduces its gradient between the axis and the wall of the discharge chamber
Experimental installation to study the influence of acoustic oscillations on the characteristics of a glow discharge
© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd. It is proposed a sketchy scheme of experimental installation to study the influence of acoustic oscillations having longitudinal, tangential, radial and combined forms on the parameters of a glow discharge
Weakly Interacting, Dilute Bose Gases in 2D
This article surveys a number of theoretical problems and open questions in
the field of two-dimensional dilute Bose gases with weak repulsive
interactions. In contrast to three dimensions, in two dimensions the formation
of long-range order is prohibited by the Bogoliubov-Hohenberg theorem, and
Bose-Einstein condensation is not expected to be realized. Nevertheless, first
experimental indications supporting the formation of the condensate in low
dimensional systems have been recently obtained. This unexpected behaviour
appears to be due to the non-uniformity, introduced into a system by the
external trapping potential. Theoretical predictions, made for homogeneous
systems, require therefore careful reexamination.
We survey a number of popular theoretical treatments of the dilute weakly
interacting Bose gas and discuss their regions of applicability. The
possibility of Bose-Einstein condensation in a two-dimensional gas, the
validity of perturbative t-matrix approximation and diluteness condition are
issues that we discuss in detail.Comment: Survey, 25 pages RMP style, revised version, refs added, some changes
