THE EFFECT OF USING SENTENCE RACE GAME ON STUDENTS’ WRITING RECOUNT TEXT ABILITY AT EIGHTH GRADE OF STATE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 1 KAMPAR TIMUR

According to preliminary research, it was found that eighth grade students of State Junior High School 1 Kampar Timur got difficulties on their writing recount text ability such as unable to write english grammatically, unable to express their idea, unable to construct the reletionship of their ideas, did not have interest in writing, and lacked in vocabulary of recount text so that this research aimed to find out the effect of using Sentence Race Game on the students’ writing recount text ability at eighth grade of State Junior High School 1 Kampar Timur. This research was a quasi-experimental research. Therefore this research used two groups; control group and experimental group. The subject of the research was eighth grade students of State Junior High School 1 Kampar Timur. The object of this research was Sentence Race Gmae and their writing ability on recount text. Sample of this research used purposive sampling. There were 38 students as sample from 137 students. To analyze the data, the writer used independent sample t-test by using SPSS 16 version and effect size formula by Julie Pallant. Based on the data analysis, the writer found that the result of effect size formula was 0.67. It was categorized as large effect. It means that there was a significant effect of using Sentence Race Game on students’ writing recount text ability at eighth grade of State Junior High School 1 Kampar Timur.
