Bound vortex states and exotic lattices in multi-component Bose-Einstein condensates: The role of vortex-vortex interaction
We numerically study the vortex-vortex interaction in multi-component
homogeneous Bose-Einstein condensates within the realm of the Gross-Pitaevskii
theory. We provide strong evidences that pairwise vortex interaction captures
the underlying mechanisms which determine the geometric configuration of the
vortices, such as different lattices in many-vortex states, as well as the
bound vortex states with two (dimer) or three (trimer) vortices. Specifically,
we discuss and apply our theoretical approach to investigate intra- and
inter-component vortex-vortex interactions in two- and three-component
Bose-Einstein condensates, thereby shedding light on the formation of the
exotic vortex configurations. These results correlate with current experimental
efforts in multi-component Bose-Einstein condensates, and the understanding of
the role of vortex interactions in multiband superconductors.Comment: Published in PR
Intraoperative Indocyanine Green Laser Angiography in Pediatric Autologous Ear Reconstruction.
Skin flap vascularity is a critical determinant of aesthetic results in autologous ear reconstruction. In this study, we investigate the use of intraoperative laser-assisted indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) as an adjunctive measure of skin flap vascularity in pediatric autologous ear reconstruction. Twenty-one consecutive pediatric patients undergoing first-stage autologous total ear reconstruction were retrospectively evaluated. The first 10 patients were treated traditionally (non-ICGA), and the latter 11 patients were evaluated with ICGA intraoperatively after implantation of the cartilage construct and administration of suction. Relative and absolute perfusion units in the form of contour maps were generated. Statistical analyses were performed using independent sample Student t test. Statistically significant differences in exposure and infection were not found between the 2 groups. However, decreased numbers of surgical revisions were required in cases with ICGA versus without ICGA (P = 0.03), suggesting that greater certainty in skin flap perfusion correlated with a reduction in revision surgeries. In cases of exposure, we found an average lowest absolute perfusion unit of 14.3, whereas cases without exposure had an average of 26.1 (P = 0.02), thereby defining objective parameters for utilizing ICGA data in tailoring surgical decision making for this special population of patients. Defined quantitative parameters for utilizing ICGA in evaluating skin flap vascularity may be a useful adjunctive technique in pediatric autologous ear reconstruction
Optimization of the transmission of observable expectation values and observable statistics in Continuous Variable Teleportation
We analyze the statistics of observables in continuous variable quantum
teleportation in the formalism of the characteristic function. We derive
expressions for average values of output state observables in particular
cumulants which are additive in terms of the input state and the resource of
teleportation. Working with Squeezed Bell-like states, which may be optimized
in a free parameter for better teleportation performance we discuss the
relation between resources optimal for fidelity and for different observable
averages. We obtain the values of the free parameter which optimize the central
momenta and cumulants up to fourth order. For the cumulants the distortion
between in and out states due to teleportation depends only on the resource. We
obtain optimal parameters for the second and fourth order cumulants which do
not depend on the squeezing of the resource. The second order central momenta
which is equal to the second order cumulants and the photon number average are
optimized by the same resource. We show that the optimal fidelity resource,
found in reference (Phys. Rev. A {\bf 76}, 022301 (2007)) to depend also on the
characteristics of input, tends for high squeezing to the resource which
optimizes the second order momenta. A similar behavior is obtained for the
resource which optimizes the photon statistics which is treated here using the
sum of the squared differences in photon probabilities of input and output
states as the distortion measure. This is interpreted to mean that the
distortions associated to second order momenta dominates the behavior of the
output state for large squeezing of the resource. Optimal fidelity and optimal
photon statistics resources are compared and is shown that for mixtures of Fock
states they are equivalent.Comment: 25 pages, 11 figure

[Technology transfer strategy as form a of knowledge apporpiation]
