Influence of the vacuum on the separation efficiency in coupled (GC)2-MS
The van Deemter polts for the same glass capillary column one coupled to an FID detector and once to an MS instrument are compared. With full vacuum at the capillary end the column still produces 75% of the maximum attinable separation efficiency
Polar organic fraction of air particulate matter
Air particulate matter collected on glass-fibre filters was extracted with dichloromethane and subsequently with methanol. The methanol extract was derivatized and analysed by capillary-column gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. About 20 components, mostly polyols, were identified. It is speculated that these polyols originate through microbiological action in the atmosphere
