    Inflation and Factor Shares

    We use results from the literature on the determinants of price-cost margins to derive an equation relating labor's share of national income to the inflation rate (as well as to the output gap, the unemployment rate and the capital stock per worker). The equation is tested with a panel of 15 OECD countries. We obtain a robust positive relationship between inflation and the labor share. Our results suggest that disinflation is not distributively neutral, provide empirical support for the distinct concern about price stability shown by trade unions and employers' organizations, and help explaining the negative impact of inflation on growth.Inflation, Functional Distribution of Income, Markups.

    Front dynamics in turbulent media

    A study of a stable front propagating in a turbulent medium is presented. The front is generated through a reaction-diffusion equation, and the turbulent medium is statistically modeled using a Langevin equation. Numerical simulations indicate the presence of two different dynamical regimes. These regimes appear when the turbulent flow either wrinkles a still rather sharp propagating interfase or broadens it. Specific dependences of the propagating velocities on stirring intensities appropriate to each case are found and fitted when possible according to theoretically predicted laws.     Synthetizing hydrodynamic turbulence from noise: formalism and applications to plankton dynamics

    We present an analytical scheme, easily implemented numerically, to generate synthetic Gaussian 2D turbulent flows by using linear stochastic partial differential equations, where the noise term acts as a random force of well-prescribed statistics. This methodology leads to a divergence-free, isotropic, stationary and homogeneous velocity field, whose characteristic parameters are well reproduced, in particular the kinematic viscosity and energy spectrum. This practical approach to tailor a turbulent flow is justified by its versatility when analizing different physical processes occurring in advectely mixed systems.     Graphite is a layered material showing a strong anisotropy. Among the unconventional properties reported by experiments, the electronic transport along the c-axis, which has direct implications in order to build graphitic devices, remains a controversial topic. We study the influence of inelastic scattering on the electron tunnelling between layers.     Langevin approach to generate synthetic turbulence

    We present an analytical scheme, easily implemented numerically, to generate synthetic Gaussian turbulent flows by using a linear Langevin equation, where the noise term acts as a stochastic stirring force. The characteristic parameters of the velocity field are well introduced, in particular the kinematic viscosity and the spectrum of energy. As an application, the diffusion of a passive scalar is studied for two different energy spectra.
