Attitudes and reported practice of paediatricians and child psychiatrists regarding the assessment and treatment of ADHD in Ireland
Objectives. This mixed-method national survey has obtained original data on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) attitudes, assessment and treatment regimes reported by paediatricians and child psychiatrists; and has compared their clinics. It has examined the extent of involvement of Irish paediatricians in the management of ADHD.
Methods. A questionnaire was designed, based on a review of literature and ADHD guidelines, and piloted by expert clinicians. Universal recruitment was conducted among Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) consultants (n = 71) and community/general paediatric consultants (n = 72). Quantitative and qualitative data was collected and analysed.
Results. There was an overall response rate of 43%. A dedicated ADHD clinic is offered in 79% of CAMHS services, but only in one paediatric service. Participants reported that the assessment of ADHD involves multidisciplinary work and this was only established in CAMHS clinics. Medication is initiated by 82% of child psychiatrists and only 22% of paediatricians.
Conclusions. This first national study of ADHD attitudes and practices presents comprehensive data regarding the management of children with ADHD in CAMHS and paediatric settings in Ireland. Paediatricians reported a minor role in managing ADHD. Study limitations are related to subjective reporting rather than case note audit, and a moderate response rate for the paediatricians’ participants

Effect of external conditions on the structure of scrolled graphene edges
Characteristic dimensions of carbon nanoscrolls - "buckyrolls" - are
calculated by analyzing the competition between elastic, van der Waals, and
electrostatic energies for representative models of suspended and
substrate-deposited graphene samples. The results are consistent with both
atomistic simulations and experimental observations of scrolled graphene edges.
Electrostatic control of the wrapping is shown to be practically feasible and
its possible device applications are indicated.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Coulomb Interactions and Ferromagnetism in Pure and Doped Graphene
We study the presence of ferromagnetism in the phase diagram of the
two-dimensional honeycomb lattice close to half-filling (graphene) as a
function of the strength of the Coulomb interaction and doping. We show that
exchange interactions between Dirac fermions can stabilize a ferromagnetic
phase at low doping when the coupling is sufficiently large. In clean systems,
the zero temperature phase diagram shows both first order and second order
transition lines and two distinct ferromagnetic phases: one phase with only one
type of carriers (either electrons or holes) and another with two types of
carriers (electrons and holes). Using the coherent phase approximation (CPA) we
argue that disorder further stabilizes the ferromagnetic phase.Comment: 10 pages; published versio
The Hamilton-Jacobi Approach to Teleparallelism
We intend to analyse the constraint structure of Teleparallelism employing
the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism for singular systems. This study is conducted
without using an ADM 3+1 decomposition and without fixing time gauge condition.
It can be verified that the field equations constitute an integrable system.Comment: 12 pages, no figur
