Brief report: Maternal posttraumatic stress symptoms are related to adherence to their child's diabetes treatment regimen.
Although research suggests that posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms in relation to physical health diagnoses may be related to poor adherence to treatment regimens, so far, whether parental posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms have an impact on their child's adherence to insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus treatment has not been investigated. Using self-report questionnaires, the present study found that children of mothers who have posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms in relation to their child's diagnosis of type I diabetes showed poorer adherence to treatment than the children of mothers without posttraumatic stress disorder. However, this was only the case for younger children (aged 0-8 years) where mothers played a more active role in their child's treatment
A new view of the electronic structure of the spin-Peierls compound alpha'-NaV2O5
The present understanding of the electronic and magnetic properties of
-NaVO is based on the hypothesis of strong charge
disproportionation into V and V, which is assumed to lead to a
spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain system. A recent structure analysis shows, however,
that the V-ions are in a mixed valence state and indistiguishable. We propose
an explanation for the insulating state, which is not based on charge
modulation, and show that strong correlations together with the Heitler-London
character of the relevant intermediate states naturally lead to
antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chains. The interchain coupling is weak and
frustrated, and its effect on the uniform susceptibility is found to be small.Comment: EPJ-style, 7 pages with 5 eps figure
Cu -edge Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering in Edge-Sharing Cuprates
We present calculations for resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) in
edge-shared copper oxide systems, such as CuGeO and LiCuO,
appropriate for hard x-ray scattering where the photoexcited electron lies
above oxygen 2p and copper 3d orbital energies. We perform exact
diagonalizations of the multi-band Hubbard and determine the energies, orbital
character and resonance profiles of excitations which can be probed via RIXS.
We find excellent agreement with recent results on LiCuO and
CuGeO in the 2-7 eV photon energy loss range.Comment: Updated with new data, expanded 9 pages, 9 figure
