Noise and thermal stability of vibrating micro-gyrometers preamplifiers

    Get PDF
The preamplifier is a critical component of gyrometer's electronics. Indeed the resolution of the sensor is limited by its signal to noise ratio, and the gyrometer's thermal stability is limited by its gain drift. In this paper, five different kinds of preamplifiers are presented and compared. Finally, the design of an integrated preamplifier is shown in order to increase the gain stability while reducing its noise and size.Comment: Submitted on behalf of EDA Publishing Association (http://irevues.inist.fr/EDA-Publishing

Spin-Valve Effect of the Spin Accumulation Resistance in a Double Ferromagnet - Superconductor Junction

We have measured the transport properties of Ferromagnet - Superconductor nanostructures, where two superconducting aluminum (Al) electrodes are connected through two ferromagnetic iron (Fe) ellipsoids in parallel. We find that, below the superconducting critical temperature of Al, the resistance depends on the relative alignment of the ferromagnets' magnetization. This spin-valve effect is analyzed in terms of spin accumulation in the superconducting electrode submitted to inverse proximity effect

Keratinocyte Binding Assay Identifies Anti-Desmosomal Pemphigus Antibodies Where Other Tests Are Negative

    Get PDF
The serological diagnosis of pemphigus relies on the detection of IgG autoantibodies directed against the epithelial cell surface by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) on monkey esophagus and against desmoglein 1 (Dsg1) and Dsg3 by ELISA. Although being highly sensitive and specific tools, discrepancies can occur. It is not uncommon that sera testing positive by ELISA give a negative result by IIF and vice versa. This brings diagnostic challenges wherein pemphigus has to be ascertained or ruled out, especially when no biopsy is available. We utilized the ability of anti-Dsg3 and anti-Dsg1 IgG to bind in specific desmosomal patterns to living cells to investigate these discrepancies between IIF and ELISA. Living cultured primary normal human keratinocytes were grown under differentiating conditions to induce adequate expression of Dsg1 and Dsg3, incubated with patient serum for 1 h, and then stained to visualize bound IgG. We investigated two different groups; sera from patients with a positive direct immunofluorescence (DIF) and inconsistent serological findings (n = 43) and sera with positive ELISA or IIF but with negative DIF (n = 60). As positive controls we used 50 sera from patients who fulfilled all diagnostics criteria, and 10 sera from normal human subjects served as negative controls. In the DIF positive group, IgG from 39 of the 43 sera bound to the cells in a desmosomal pattern while in the DIF negative group none of the 60 sera bound to the cells. This shows that for pemphigus patients, ELISA and IIF can be negative while anti-desmosomal antibodies are present and vice versa that ELISA and IIF can be positive in non-pemphigus cases. In absence of a biopsy for DIF, such findings may lead to misdiagnosis

Hierarchical Spatial Organization of Geographical Networks

In this work we propose the use of a hirarchical extension of the polygonality index as a means to characterize and model geographical networks: each node is associated with the spatial position of the nodes, while the edges of the network are defined by progressive connectivity adjacencies. Through the analysis of such networks, while relating its topological and geometrical properties, it is possible to obtain important indications about the development dynamics of the networks under analysis. The potential of the methodology is illustrated with respect to synthetic geographical networks.Comment: 3 page, 3 figures. A wokring manuscript: suggestions welcome

Purification of Noisy Entanglement and Faithful Teleportation via Noisy Channels

Two separated observers, by applying local operations to a supply of not-too-impure entangled states ({\em e.g.} singlets shared through a noisy channel), can prepare a smaller number of entangled pairs of arbitrarily high purity ({\em e.g.} near-perfect singlets). These can then be used to faithfully teleport unknown quantum states from one observer to the other, thereby achieving faithful transfrom one observer to the other, thereby achieving faithful transmission of quantum information through a noisy channel. We give upper and lower bounds on the yield D(M)D(M) of pure singlets (∣Ψ−⟩\ket{\Psi^-}) distillable from mixed states MM, showing D(M)>0D(M)>0 if \bra{\Psi^-}M\ket{\Psi^-}>\half.Comment: 4 pages (revtex) plus 1 figure (postscript). Treatment of subcutaneous nodules after infusion of apomorphine:a biopsy-controlled study comparing 4 frequently used therapies

    Get PDF
This study aimed to provide clinical evidence for existing treatments of subcutaneous nodules after subcutaneous infusion of apomorphine, using a biopsy-controlled prospective crossover design of four treatments. We demonstrated that dilution of apomorphine significantly improved patient satisfaction, while subcutaneous hydrocortisone reduced nodule size, however with no differences in the histopathology

What is the Thouless Energy for Ballistic Systems?

The Thouless energy, \Ec characterizes numerous quantities associated with sensitivity to boundary conditions in diffusive mesoscopic conductors. What happens to these quantities if the disorder strength is decreased and a transition to the ballistic regime takes place? In the present analysis we refute the intuitively plausible assumption that \Ec loses its meaning as an inverse diffusion time through the system at hand, and generally disorder independent scales take over. Instead we find that a variety of (thermodynamic) observables are still characterized by the Thouless energy.Comment: 4 pages REVTEX, uuencoded file. To appear in Physical Review Letter
