Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a genetic pathology due to an excessive length of a repetitive sequence of trinucleotides (CGG) in a specific gene (FMR1), matched to FMR1 protein, which is primarily responsible for the regular brain developing and functioning. It represents one of the most usual cause of developmental disabilities with learning difficulties as consequence of intellectual, communicative and social disorders. Additionally, anxiety, hyperactivity, seizures, gaze avoidance and autism spectrum disorders are frequently described within its patterns, basically occurring in males. FXS physical characteristics usually include long and narrow visage, large ears, prominent jaws and foreheads. Stereotypic behaviors, aggression and self-injuries are equally described among this population [1-3]. Accordingly, individuals with FXS may be entirely considered as affected by severe to profound developmental disabilities. One way to enable the latter persons with the independent access to positive stimulation is the use of assistive technology (AT) [4]. It refers to any technological piece, device, tool or equipment enhancing selfdetermination [5]. Despite its large and wide use among children with developmental disabilities, few studies have been carried out on the use of AT within FXS populatio

He or she? The use of an integrated approach for sex determination in the bioarcheological research

This research aims to determine the sex of non-adult skeletal remains from two archaeological sites dating to the Roman Imperial and Medieval periods by using morphological, morphometrics and molecular approaches. The determination of sex from non-adult remains is a debated issue in the literature even though it has important implications in the palaeodemographic reconstruction of past populations. Concordance between the different approaches was obtained in the 63% of cases (N=19). The obtained results although preliminary are encouraging even though much research is needed for enlarging the sample size and for applying the cutting-edge High Throughput Sequencing (HTS) technologies

On the basis of recent archaeological evidence unearthed in the course of systematic excavations by the Cencelle (Tarquinia, Viterbo), Northen Latium, this paper attempts to pull together different strings of ceramic data in order to bridge the era between Early Middle Ages and Modern Ages (mid night century to seventeenth century AD). An attempt has been made to examine rigorously the stratigraphy and its contents to the known ceramic in context. Some different pottery types are presented, both kitchenwares and tablewares. The article shows the distribution of ceramics in different areas of the towns, different for architectur, function, archaeological events. Graphs show a regolar trend of distribution; anomalies are relates to the events of the site
