Variational Principle in the Algebra of Asymptotic Fields

This paper proposes a variational principle for the solutions of quantum field theories in which the ``trial functions'' are chosen from the algebra of asymptotic fields, and illustrates this variational principle in simple cases.Comment: 15 pages, Latex, no figure

Interactive color display of 3-D engineering analysis results

    Get PDF
A general approach to three-dimensional postprocessing of engineering analyses is presented. The approach is versatile and may handle the results from a wide range of engineering analysis methods which involve the discretization of continua. To facilitate the understanding of complex three-dimensional numerical models, advanced interactive color postprocessing techniques are introduced. Finite element, finite difference, and boundary element models are evaluated with the prototype postprocessor. The existing color graphics program (POSTPRO3D) was ported to a high-resolution device. Interactive graphic tools were implemented to facilitate qualitative mesh evaluation from a single analysis. A postprocessing environment was design for workstation technology

Covariance of Time-Ordered Products Implies Local Commutativity of Fields

We formulate Lorentz covariance of a quantum field theory in terms of covariance of time-ordered products (or other Green's functions). This formulation of Lorentz covariance implies spacelike local commutativity or anticommutativity of fields, sometimes called microscopic causality or microcausality. With this formulation microcausality does not have to be taken as a separate assumption.Comment: 6 pages, section on non-local theories removed, published versio

    Exterior powers in Iwasawa theory

The Iwasawa theory of CM fields has traditionally concerned Iwasawa modules that are abelian pro-p Galois groups with ramification allowed at a maximal set of primes over p such that the module is torsion. A main conjecture for such an Iwasawa module describes its codimension one support in terms of a p-adic L-function attached to the primes of ramification. In this paper, we study more general and potentially much smaller Iwasawa modules that are quotients of exterior powers of Iwasawa modules with ramification at a set of primes over p by sums of exterior powers of inertia subgroups. We show that the higher codimension support of such quotients can be measured by finite collections of p-adic L-functions under the relevant CM main conjectures.Comment: 41 pages, to appear in J.
