MODELING AND ANALYSIS OF AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE USING PAMVEC
Electric vehicles are considered a key technology to reduce fossil fuel consumption, emissions and energy consumption. However, Electric Vehicles require larger battery packs to reach acceptable range levels. The development of new batteries with higher specific energy could reduce the mass and the cost of Electric Vehicles and increase their driving range. This work analyzes the influence of battery specific energy on battery pack mass, energy consumption and the cost per kilometer of a Tesla Model S Electric Vehicle. The energy consumption and the cost per kilometer calculated were 0.221 kWh/km (22.1 kWh/100 km) and 0.024 US$/km respectively

Effect of hydrodynamic conditions and bulk substrate concentration on biofilm efficiency at steady-state
Water and wastewater biofilm reactors work under quite different substrate concentrations and hydrodynamic conditions. It is important to analyse how these factors can affect the activity of biofilms.

Experimental observation of two-dimensional fluctuation magnetization in the vicinity of T_c for low values of the magnetic field in deoxygenated YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}
We measured isofield magnetization curves as a function of temperature in two
single crystal of deoxygenated YBaCuO with T_c = 52 and 41.5 K. Isofield MvsT
were obtained for fields running from 0.05 to 4 kOe. The reversible region of
the magnetization curves was analyzed in terms of a scaling proposed by Prange,
but searching for the best exponent . The scaling analysis carried
out for each data sample set with =0.669, which corresponds to the
3D-xy exponent, did not produced a collapsing of curves when applied to MvsT
curves data obtained for the lowest fields. The resulting analysis for the Y123
crystal with T_c = 41.5 K, shows that lower field curves collapse over the
entire reversible region following the Prange's scaling with =1,
suggesting a two-dimensional behavior. It is shown that the same data obeying
the Prange's scaling with =1 for crystal with T_c = 41.5 K, as well
low field data for crystal with = 52 K, obey the known two-dimensional
scaling law obtained in the lowest-Landau-level approximation.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Electron--phonon coupling and anharmonic effects in metal clusters
The periods of the harmonic oscillations of the ion core of charged sodium
clusters around the equilibrium shapes are considered. It is found that these
periods are of the order of magnitude of the experimentally measured relaxation
times of the plasmons, which suggests the importance of the electron-ion
coupling and stresses the role played by the electron-phonon interaction in the
dissipation of the plasmon energy. The relation of the process to fission is

Caracterização e tratamento do efluente de uma estação de serviço
O presente estudo incidiu na caracterização e tratamento das lamas retidas nos
separadores de hidrocarbonetos instalados numa estação de serviço. Recorreu-se Ã
técnica de respirometria para obter informação prévia sobre a toxicidade e a
tratabilidade das lamas por um Sequencial Batch Biofilm Reactor (SBBR). Utilizou-se
um inóculo de lamas activadas e uma cultura de Pseudomonas putida. Os testes
respirométricos permitiram avaliar a capacidade destas culturas crescerem num meio
contendo hidrocarbonetos como única fonte de carbono e verificar o efeito de diferentes
