Fibrous dysplasia is a benign intramedullary fibroosseous lesion in which normal bone tissue is replaced by collagen, fibroblast and variable amounts of osteoid tissue. Majority of the patients with fibrous dysplasia are asymptomatic. A 58 year old female presented with a pain in her both knees; right ankle, 2nd and 4th metatarsals of the right foot was diagnosed as fibrous dysplasia by plain X-rays. Laboratory examination showed no abnormality other than increased parathyroid hormone (PTH) among the endocrinologic examinations. Examinations related to osteoporosis showed low levels of 25 OH vitamin D. Although association of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia with various endocrine disorders has been reported, vitamin D deficiency and secondarily increased PTH levels has been observed in a small number of cases. In this report, a case of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia associated with vitamin D deficiency is presented. Copyright © 2008 by Türk Tibbi Rehabilitasyon Kurumu Dernegi
