Evansville College Changes Its Name
In 1967, the Indiana General Assembly approves the College’s name change from Evansville College to the University of Evansville (UE). The designation as University reflects the growth in programs and changes in the composition of the Board of Trustees, the creation of faculty governance, and the reorganization of the administrative structure. UE is the second largest private, church-affiliated college in Indiana with an enrollment of 2,859 students.Use of this image is restricted to projects related to Destination Indiana. Veterans Attending Evansville College
Following WWII, student enrollment more than triples from 500 students to 1,750 students; this is largely due to the GI Bill, a program granting free college tuition to veterans. Free tuition, through the Yellow Ribbon Award, continues to be available for veterans today. The University is consistently ranked among the nation’s most military-friendly colleges, offering veterans the opportunity for a strong, challenging education in a supportive campus environment.Use of this image is restricted to projects related to Destination Indiana. It houses all departments and administrative offices, classrooms, laboratories and a chapel able to seat 500 persons. It stood alone for 25 years. President Lincoln Hale persuades trustees to adopt a campus building plan in 1944 and one year later the Engineering and Science building is under construction.
