The neutron electric dipole moment and the Weinberg mechanism
We gave an overview of various mechanism for CP violation paying special attention to their prediction of the neutron electric dipole moment. The implication of the recent developments associated with the color electric dipole moment of gluon in various models of CP-violation are then critically assessed. 25 refs

Contact-impact simulations on massively parallel SIMD supercomputers
The implementation of explicit finite element methods with contact-impact on massively parallel SIMD computers is described. The basic parallel finite element algorithm employs an exchange process which minimizes interprocessor communication at the expense of redundant computations and storage. The contact-impact algorithm is based on the pinball method in which compatibility is enforced by preventing interpenetration on spheres embedded in elements adjacent to surfaces. The enhancements to the pinball algorithm include a parallel assembled surface normal algorithm and a parallel detection of interpenetrating pairs. Safety Data: Costs, Quality and Strategies for Improvement- Executive Summary
FHWA-RD-96-027The objectives of this project were to examine the costs and quality of safety data and to identify improvement strategies. The project's scope was narrowed to three key sources: the crash report, roadway inventories, and medical records. The primary focus was on crash reporting. Within the medical source, the focus was upon data regarding driver condition prior to crash, and injury severity, since these are of high interest to the highway community. Since the same piece of data will have a different quality for different users and uses, it was necessary to identify the variety of users and uses of highway safety data. This executive summary presents an overview of the research results. The complete results are available in the research report (FHWA-RD-96-191) and the final report (FHWA-RD-96-192)

Study of the influence of imperfections on the dynamic stability of tanks
The influence of geometrical imperfections on the dynamic stability of liquid-filled shells under horizontal ground excitation is studied. Some basic concepts in the large deformation and large deformation thin shell theory are recalled. The work done by inertial and internal forces are given in the Gaussian surface coordinate system. A general imperfection pattern in the circumferential direction is introduced. The emphasis is particularly dedicated to the analysis of the geometrical stiffness term. Different patterns are studied to explain the occurrence of additional instability regions. 6 refs., 1 fig., 3 tabs
