Misogynistic tendencies are not strange, rather this attitude pervades various strata of our existence. They are vocally audible and visibly present within the political, economic, social, cultural and religious spheres of our societies. Misogyny is an extreme hatred against women by men, and women against women. The purview of this paper is to explore misogyny in Christianity, analyze the origin and extent of misogyny within Christianity and how it has affected the position of women within the church. This paper discovered that misogyny in Christianity is traced to its roots, during the period of the early church fathers and that misogyny has affected negatively the ecclesiastical positions assigned to women in most churches. Misogyny has negative implications for Christian ethics which focuses on love, not hatred. The paper adopts the historical and survey methods of data collection and used the qualitative methods to analyze the data collected. One of the recommendations made in this paper is that churches and religious organizations must shun misogynistic attitude as it is against Christian ethics and teachings. The APA style of documentation is applied to this work

DISTRIBUTION OF HEAVY METALS IN COCOA BEAN AND SOILS ALONG TOPOSEQUENCE OF COCOA PLANTATIONS

This study was conducted in April, 2018 to evaluate the relationships between Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn in cocoa beanand in soils along a toposequence of cocoa-growing areas of Abia State, Nigeria. Twelve composite soil samplesand 10 plant tissues (leaves and cocoa pods) were randomly collected from twelve (12) different cocoaplantations along a toposequence (crests, upper, middle, lower and bottom) for laboratory analyses. Theconcentrations of Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn in both plant tissues and soils were determined. Results showed that the soilswere sandy clay loam, strongly acidic, low in organic matter and sufficient in the four heavy metals contents. Thecontent of coca-cola extractable Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn in soils, cocoa bean and leaf varied significantly along the soiltoposequence. The bioavailability of the metals in soils and in plant tissues were in the order: Cu>Zn>Fe>Mn,while, the comparative abundance of the four metals followed the order: cocoa bean > leaves > soil. Significantpositive relationships were also established between the metals in cacao tissues and corresponding levels ofbioavailability in soils. This suggests that, the primary source of the heavy metals in cocoa beans could be linkedto its primary uptake from the soils and secondary from the leaf sprayed with metals containing pesticides. Thisresult can possibly be used as predictive parameter for evaluating Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn levels in cacao bean andcocoa products

A law library, like every other library exists to meet the requirements of acquisition, storing, processing and disseminating of legal materials to carter for the needs of Lawyers and the legal public. Typically a law student / lawyer is bookish – no profession depends on books more than lawyers. He is from the beginning taught the art of legal research which means finding the law especially for justice administration and legal research. The symbiotic relationship between a lawyer and his books makes it indispensable that law materials be organized in a logical and practical manner.   It is not uncommon to see a lawyer with his wig and gown, dash into the library to check on the correct citation of a case on his way to court. Collection development and organization of these legal materials therefore become an urgent necessity. Keywords: Moys, Classification, Legal Materials, Rules, Guide, Organisatio

The magnitude of challenges created on the human environment in different parts of the earth surface today, is alarming. This has resulted to various environmental threats across the universe which are quite visible and have a roused the concern of sociologists-worldwide. This is seen in the scale of wildlife destruction, soil erosion, deforestation, air, water, and land pollution, increased temperature levels among others. Globally, we are confronted with massive human starvation, extinction of plants and animal species, dwindling biodiversity, drought and desertification, global warming, emission of carbon dioxide from burning of fossil fuels, depletion of the protective ozone layer by lethal chemicals and concomitant bombardment of the earth’s environment by cancer-causing ultra violent radiation. Man’s attempt to convert the environment for his development had produced the highlighted and if mans activities on the environment are not controlled it would seriously rendered the world landscape uninhabitable. This paper seeks to explore the various ways in which man’s activities in the environment pose a threat to Agricultural soil and water conservation. It also highlights strategies to achieve sustainable environmental landscape balance

The role of multinational corporations in Nigeria : a case study

    Get PDF
Multinational corporations in Nigeria are as old as Nigeria itself. This section has been recognized as an important area of economic activity which is capable of having both positive as well as negative economic implications regarding employment, technology transfer, international capital investments and other sociocultural issues in Nigeria. In Nigeria multinationals corporations (MNC) have virtually dominated such industries as cement, beer brewing, tobacco products, soap and cosmetics, chemicals, pharmaceutical, machinery, electric equipment and assembly activities ie. motor vehicle and bicycle. However, much as the host country is aware of the inherent danger posed by direct investment by transnational corporations, the Nigerian government has done very little to protect itself and its economy. Nigeria still allows foreign corporations so much leeway in granting them tax breaks and other concessions, encouraging more investments without proper policy direction. Although, the benefits of multinational corporations to Nigeria are undisputable, the negative impact are so alarming and threating that it is necessary to review current policies to protect Nigerian economy from the vagaries of multinational corporations. Thus, the purpose of this project is to examine the contending contributions of MNC. and the disadvantages or critical perspective in Nigeria. It is hoped that through this investigation, knowledge that is useful for policy decision making will be gained and made available to all nations and particularly developing countries. Secondly, it is the object of this study to provide a basis for understanding MNC, and allows for long term projections of future growth and structures

    Gender and Environmental Preservation

The paper titled gender and environmental preservation explores the nature of gender in relationship with the environment using the Yakur society in Cross River State, Nigeria as a case study, African societies generally see the world to a greater extent as a man’s world in the sense that the land and everything within the environment is owned and controlled by men. However the research discovered that women give greater priority to protection of and improving the capacity of nature by maintaining the economic/agricultural environment, political environment, spiritual environment, domestic environment and the social environment respectively. Women play critical roles in managing natural resources and the family. Secondly the paper discussed the nature of gender inequality in Yakurr societies and its impact on women. The paper adopted the historical and phenomenological methods of data collection. The qualitative method was used to analyze the data collected. The paper calls for an equal distribution of resources irrespective of gender or sex

Evaluation of growth performance and haematological response of broiler chicks to raw and boiled Garcinia kola seed diet

This study was set to evaluate the effect of raw and boiled (1000C) Garcinia kola seed diet on growth performance and haematological response of broiler chicks. A total 18 broiler chicks assigned into three treatment groups of six birds each were used for this study. Treatment one (control) received 0% inclusion of Garcinia kola seed. Treatment group two received 10% boiled Garcinia kola seed, while group three received 10% raw Garcinia kola seed in addition to basal feed (Vital starter and finisher rations). The growth performance indices of feed consumption, live body mass were taken on weekly basis whereas uncoagulated blood samples were collected 24 hours after administering the last treatment to the groups. The haematological indices of erythrocytic function were determined. The result obtained showed a significant (P0.05) affected by heat treatment at 1000C. This finding lends credence to the popular report in literature that heat treatment above 800C is one of the methods of removing or deactivating anti nutritional factors present in plant food for animal nutrition
