The evaluation of Tornheim double sums. Part 1

    Get PDF
We provide an explicit formula for the Tornheim double series in terms of integrals involving the Hurwitz zeta function. We also study the limit when the parameters of the Tornheim sum become natural numbers, and show that in that case it can be expressed in terms of definite integrals of triple products of Bernoulli polynomials and the Bernoulli function Ak(q):=kζ(1k,q)A_k (q): = k\zeta '(1 - k,q).Comment: 23 pages, AMS-LaTex, to appear in Journal of Number Theor

The Higgs mass in the MSSM infrared fixed point scenario

    Get PDF
In the infrared fixed point (IFP) scenario of the minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM), the top-quark mass and other physical quantities of the low-energy theory are insensitive to the values of the parameters of the theory at some high energy scale. In this framework we evaluate the light CP-even Higgs mass, mhm_h, taking into account some important effects that had not been previously considered. In particular, the supersymmetric correction to the relation between the running and the physical top-quark masses lowers the value of tanβ\tan\beta, thereby implying a lower predicted value of mhm_h. Assuming a supersymmetric threshold of MS1M_S\leq 1 TeV and Mt=175M_t=175 GeV, we find an upper bound of mh97±2m_h\le 97\pm 2 GeV; the most plausible value of mhm_h lies somewhat below the upper bound. This places the Higgs boson in the IFP scenario well within the reach of the LEP-2 Higgs search.Comment: 18 pages, LaTeX, 5 ps figures, uses psfig.sty. Physical processes leading to surface inhomogeneities: the case of rotation

In this lecture I discuss the bulk surface heterogeneity of rotating stars, namely gravity darkening. I especially detail the derivation of the omega-model of Espinosa Lara & Rieutord (2011), which gives the gravity darkening in early-type stars. I also discuss the problem of deriving gravity darkening in stars owning a convective envelope and in those that are members of a binary system.Comment: 23 pages, 11 figure, Lecture given to the school on the cartography of the Sun and the stars (May 2014 in Besan\c{c}on), to appear in LNP, Neiner and Rozelot edts V2: typos correcte
