Acute mesenteric vascular ischemia, is a life-threatening surgical emergency usually seen in the elderly population that has a mortality rate between 60-100 %. It is generally due to an acute occlusion of the major vessels of small intestine and may cause higher morbidity and mortality rates when getting late in the diagnosis and treatment. in the present study, 61 patients treated for acute mesenteric vascular ischemia between 1983-1997 were evaluated, retrospectively. While all patients were examined in terms of aetiology, diagnosis of the disease, treatment, morbidity and mortality, the principles of current surgical therapy and diagnosis of patients with acute mesenteric vascular ischemia were discussed under literature.Özet: Akut mezenterik iskemi, hayatı tehdit eden ve genellikle yaşı populasyonda ortaya çıkan ve %60-100 arasında mortalite ile seyreden cerrahi acillerden biridir.
