Reply to Comment on "Acoustics of tachyon Fermi gas"
In a paper appearing in this issue of Physical Review D, Burmistrov raises
some critical comments on the thermodynamics of a cold tachyon Fermi gas [E.
Trojan and G. V. Vlasov, Phys. Rev. D 83, 124013 (2011)]. However, apart from
any possible theoretical speculation, there are the basic physical principles
to test the theory.Comment: 4 pages, 1 suppl. figur
(j,0)+(0,j) Covariant spinors and causal propagators based on Weinberg formalism
A pragmatic approach to constructing a covariant phenomenology of the
interactions of composite, high-spin hadrons is proposed. Because there are no
known wave equations without significant problems, we propose to construct the
phenomenology without explicit reference to a wave equation. This is done by
constructing the individual pieces of a perturbation theory and then utilizing
the perturbation theory as the definition of the phenomenology. The covariant
spinors for a particle of spin are constructed directly from Lorentz
invariance and the basic precepts of quantum mechanics following the logic put
forth originally by Wigner and developed by Weinberg. Explicit expressions for
the spinors are derived for j=1, 3/2 and 2. Field operators are constructed
from the spinors and the free-particle propagator is derived from the vacuum
expectation value of the time-order product of the field operators. A few
simple examples of model interactions are given. This provides all the
necessary ingredients to treat at a phenomenological level and in a covariant
manner particles of arbitrary spin.Comment: tex file, 52 page
Charging axisymmetric space-times with cosmological constant
Ernst's solution generating technique for adding electromagnetic charge to
axisymmetric space-times in general relativity is generalised in presence of
the cosmological constant. Ernst equations for complex potentials are found and
they are traced back to an affective dual complex dynamical system, whose
symmetries are studied. In particular this method is able to generate charged,
asymptotically (A)dS black holes from their uncharged version: as an example,
it is shown explicitly how to pass from the Kerr-(A)dS to the Kerr-Newman-(A)dS
metric. A new solution describing a magnetic universe in presence of the
cosmological constant is also generated.Comment: 15 pages, v2: typos correcte

Space-efficient indexing of endgame tables for chess
Chess endgame tables should provide efficiently the value and depth of any required position during play. The indexing of an endgame’s positions is crucial to meeting this objective. This paper updates Heinz’ previous review of approaches to indexing and describes the latest approach by the first and third authors.
Heinz’ and Nalimov’s endgame tables (EGTs) encompass the en passant rule and have the most compact index schemes to date. Nalimov’s EGTs, to the Distance-to-Mate (DTM) metric, require only 30.6 × 109 elements in total for all the 3-to-5-man endgames and are individually more compact than previous tables. His new index scheme has proved itself while generating the tables and in the 1999 World Computer Chess Championship where many of the top programs used the new suite of EGTs
Reorientational Dynamics and Solid-Phase Transformation of Ammonium Dicyanamide into Dicyandiamide
The reorientational dynamics of ammonium dicyanamide ND4[N(C≡N)2] and the kinetics as well as the mechanism of the solid-state isomerization reaction from ammonium dicyanamide into dicyandiamide (N≡C-N=C(NH2)2) was studied by means of 2H and 14N solid-state NMR spectroscopy in a temperature range between 38 and 390 K. Whereas in previous investigations the mechanism of the solid-state transformation was investigated by means of vibrational and magic angle spinning solid-state NMR spectroscopy as well as neutron diffraction, we here present a comprehensive 2H study of the ammonium ion dynamics prior to and during the course of the reaction, thereby highlighting possible cross correlations between dynamics and reactivity involving the ammonium ion. The ND4+ group was found to undergo thermally activated random jumps in a tetrahedral potential, which is increasingly distorted with increasing temperature, giving rise to an asymmetrically compressed or elongated tetrahedron with deviations from the tetrahedral angle of up to 6°. The correlation time follows an Arrhenius law with an activation energy of Ea = 25.8(2) kJ mol-1 and an attempt frequency of τ0-1 = 440(80) THz. The spin−lattice relaxation times were fitted according to a simple Bloembergen−Purcell−Pound type model with a T1 minimum of 4 ms at 230 K. Temperature-dependent librational amplitudes were extracted by line-shape simulations between 38 and 390 K and contrasted with those obtained by neutron diffraction, their values ranging between 5 and 28°. The onset and progress of the solid-phase transformation were followed in situ at temperatures above 372 K and could be classified as a strongly temperature-dependent, heterogeneous two-step reaction proceeding with rapid evolution of ammonia and comparatively slow subsequent reintegration into the solid. On the microscopic level, this correlates with a rapid proton transferpossibly triggered by a coupling between the ammonium ion dynamics and phonon modes on the terahertz time scaleand an essentially decoupled nucleophilic attack of ammonia at the nitrile carbon, giving rise to significantly differing time constants for the two processes
Determining parameters of the Neugebauer family of vacuum spacetimes in terms of data specified on the symmetry axis
We express the complex potential E and the metrical fields omega and gamma of
all stationary axisymmetric vacuum spacetimes that result from the application
of two successive quadruple-Neugebauer (or two double-Harrison) transformations
to Minkowski space in terms of data specified on the symmetry axis, which are
in turn easily expressed in terms of multipole moments. Moreover, we suggest
how, in future papers, we shall apply our approach to do the same thing for
those vacuum solutions that arise from the application of more than two
successive transformations, and for those electrovac solutions that have axis
data similar to that of the vacuum solutions of the Neugebauer family.

Acoustics of tachyon Fermi gas
We consider a Fermi gas of free tachyons as a continuous medium and find
whether it satisfies the causality condition. There is no stable tachyon matter
with the particle density below critical value and the Fermi momentum
that depends on the tachyon mass . The pressure
and energy density cannot be arbitrary small, but the situation is
not forbidden. Existence of shock waves in tachyon gas is also discussed. At
low density the tachyon matter remains stable but no shock wave
do survive.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figures (color
