Multistate resistive switching in silver nanoparticle films.
Resistive switching devices have garnered significant consideration for their potential use in nanoelectronics and non-volatile memory applications. Here we investigate the nonlinear current-voltage behavior and resistive switching properties of composite nanoparticle films comprising a large collective of metal-insulator-metal junctions. Silver nanoparticles prepared via the polyol process and coated with an insulating polymer layer of tetraethylene glycol were deposited onto silicon oxide substrates. Activation required a forming step achieved through application of a bias voltage. Once activated, the nanoparticle films exhibited controllable resistive switching between multiple discrete low resistance states that depended on operational parameters including the applied bias voltage, temperature and sweep frequency. The films' resistance switching behavior is shown here to be the result of nanofilament formation due to formative electromigration effects. Because of their tunable and distinct resistance states, scalability and ease of fabrication, nanoparticle films have a potential place in memory technology as resistive random access memory cells
Defining Textual Entailment
Textual entailment is a relationship that obtains between fragments of text when one fragment in some sense implies the other fragment. The automation of textual entailment recognition supports a wide variety of text-based tasks, including information retrieval, information extraction, question answering, text summarization, and machine translation. Much ingenuity has been devoted to developing algorithms for identifying textual entailments, but relatively little to saying what textual entailment actually is. This article is a review of the logical and philosophical issues involved in providing an adequate definition of textual entailment. We show that many natural definitions of textual entailment are refuted by counterexamples, including the most widely cited definition of Dagan et al. We then articulate and defend the following revised definition: T textually entails H = df typically, a human reading T would be justified in inferring the proposition expressed by H from the proposition expressed by T. We also show that textual entailment is context-sensitive, nontransitive, and nonmonotonic
Pure de Sitter Supergravity
Using superconformal methods we derive an explicit de Sitter supergravity
action invariant under spontaneously broken local supersymmetry.
The supergravity multiplet interacts with a nilpotent goldstino multiplet. We
present a complete locally supersymmetric action including the graviton and the
fermionic fields, gravitino and goldstino, no scalars. In the global limit when
supergravity multiplet decouples, our action reproduces the Volkov-Akulov
theory. In the unitary gauge where goldstino vanishes we recover pure
supergravity with the positive cosmological constant. The classical equations
of motion, with all fermions vanishing, have a maximally symmetric solution: de
