Retrieval of embolized tip of port catheter from branch of right pulmonary artery using a macro snare catheter

    No full text
Rupture of the silicon port catheter is a relatively rare complication. Ruptured part usually embolizes; therefore, removal of foreign body may be difficult. These ports usually migrate to right-sided chambers, main pulmonary arteries, and pulmonary subbranches. Different devices such as snares, basket catheters, and ablation catheters are utilized for retrieval. Hereby, we report successful extraction of an embolized 10-cm tip of a vascular access port using a macro snare catheter. © 2014 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest

Tianeptine is a selective serotonin reuptake enhancer, possessing strong antidepressant and anxiolytic properties. Its relative lack of sedative, anticholinergic and cardiovascular side effects makes it a highly tolerable substance of abuse. However, physical dependence quickly develops and withdrawal symptoms are common. Abusers in Georgia and Armenia use tianeptine by intravenous injection. Drug abusing behaviour usually starts during puberty, since it stems from psychologic, social and cultural circumstances. Sociodemographic studies show that drug abusing behaviour in Turkey varies according to region and substance. This paper investigates differences between Georgian foreigners and the local population in the eastern Black Sea region in terms of tianeptine abuse and discusses complications resulting from intravenous injection of tiapentine. © 2013 by Turkish Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Society

Spinal Anestezinin Nadir Bir Komplikasyonu: Horner Sendromu

    No full text
Horner syndrome is characterized by myosis, ptosis, anhydrosis and flushing on the affected side, as well as weakness of the upper and lower extremities due to paralysis of the ipsilateral cervical plexus. It may ocur during intrapleural blocks, thoracal, lumbar, and caudal approach to epidural anesthesia. A female patient, who underwent vaginal hysterectomy and cystorectocele repair under spinal anesthesia, presented with ptosis of the right eyelid at the 30th postoperative hour. She was counseled to anesthesiology with the suspicion of an anesthesiologic complication. She recovered spontaneously after one month. We are in opinion that this complication occurred due to patient's physical characteristics and surgical positioning rather than anesthesic techniques and medications
