Virtualization of Heterogeneous Data Sources for Grid Information Systems

    No full text
Grid Information Systems will use existing data from various distributed and heterogeneous data stores as well as new data entering the organization. Several technical obstacles arise in the design and implementation of a system for integration of such data sources -- most notably distribution, autonomy, and data heterogeneity. This paper describes the data integration system based on the wrappermediator approach -- namely the Grid Data Mediation Service -- of the GridMiner project conducted in Vienna. The developed mediation service is, to our best knowledge, the first prototype of a Grid service capable of presenting distributed, heterogeneous data sources as one logical virtual data source on the Grid. We developed a flexible mapping schema to describe the building process of a virtual data source. At present, integratable data sources include structured as well as semi-structured data sources. Although we are (currently) not describing the semantics of the data sources, our system permits the possibility to include own Java transformation functions (static and dynamic) in the mediation process to resolve all kinds of heterogeneities

Mediators in the Architecture of Grid Information Systems

Across a wide variety of fields, huge datasets are being collected and accumulated at a dramatical pace. The datasets addressed by individual applications are very often heterogeneous and geographically distributed. In this paper, we describe our extensions and improvements to the reference implementation of the OGSA-DAI Grid Data Service prototype, an infrastructure that allows remote access to Grid databases, in order to provide a Virtual Data Source -- a clean abstraction of heterogeneous /distributed data for users and applications. By picturing general applicable access scenarios, we are showing the great need for such a Grid data mediation service as well as the compliance with important requirements of virtual data sources

Lymphomas of the head and neck region: an update

The field of haematopathology is rapidly evolving and for the non-specialized pathologist receiving a specimen with the possibility of a lymphoid malignancy may be a daunting experience. The coincidence of the publication, in 2017, of the WHO monographies on head and neck and haematopoietic and lymphoid tumours prompted us to write this review. Although not substantially different from lymphomas elsewhere, lymphomas presenting in this region pose some specific problems and these are central to the review. In addition, differences in subtype frequency and morphological variations within the same entity are discussed. The difficulty in diagnosis related to some specimens led us to briefly mention common subtypes of systemic lymphomas presenting in the head and neck region.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
