PROMOTING DIALOGUE SPEECH FOR PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN IN PROBLEM SOLVING SITUATIONS

    Get PDF
Introduction. Forming the questions, the ability to listen to different opinions, to evaluate the problem and looking for different ways of solving it, to agree upon a commonly accepted opinion – these all are daily necessities  for each person. According to the skills of a child's dialogue speech, these issues can be either more successfully or less effectively solved. During the communication process the teacher and parents can demonstrate to a child an interested, supportive position that ensures the implementation of the values of human pedagogy and develops the socio-linguistic growth of the child's personality. The empirical study examines the techniques of pedagogical work in problem-solving situations of everyday life by using productive questions. Development  both of dialogue speech and successful negotiation process are closely related to adult skills that a child often imitates, and environmental conditions. Results, conclusions. Solving negotiations about daily situations, the ability to ask and find the best possible solution during the communication process with a child can ensure a successful acquisition of the Latvian language and the child's ability to implement the dialogue speech more successfully

APPLYING THE RESEARCH SKILLS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF BACHELOR’S THESIS

    Get PDF
We live in the age when research skills are required regardless of person’s field of activity and experience, therefore it is important to acquire the research skills as key competences already in the school years. Also it is possible to purposefully develop the research skills working on the course papers, bachelor's thesis, master's thesis and doctoral dissertation. In Liepaja University, the Bachelor's study program Teacher/ Music teacher gives the students the opportunity to participate in the development of science, ensuring the academic research principles in the science of pedagogy. The authors of this article analyse the choice of research topics selected by the students of Liepaja University, study program Teacher/ Music teacher, as well as the content of the Bachelor’s papers, evaluating the applied research skills. The aim of this research: to explore the students' ability to apply the research skills in the process of Bachelor's thesis development. The research method: This study is designed as analysis and review of the defended Bachelor's thesis. As the result, the topicality and specifics of the Bachelor’s papers is evaluated, keeping in mind the selected qualifications in the context of lifelong education, also analysing the students' ability to apply the research skills while working on Bachelor's thesis

The Destruction of Antiquity in Syria and Iraq - We Ought to Care About a Viable Solution

    Get PDF
Syria and Iraq are home to numerous ancient civilizations which have been instrumental in helping modern humans understand the dawn of civilization. While human casualties are often the media focus, the permanent loss of historic sites and artifacts is a long term economic burden for local communities that rely on tourism, and the global cultural heritage within Syria and Iraq simply cannot be replaced once it is gone. This paper will explore the fundamentalist ideals which fuel the desecration of antiquity, the historic relevance of variety of damaged or destroyed sites, and we will argue that a long term solution involves targeting the illegal trade of antiquities, the economic foundation of ISIS, and the withdrawal of aggressive foreign military forces

Interactions of the chemokines CXCL11 and CXCL12 in human tumor cells

BACKGROUND The chemokines, CXCL12 and CXCL11, are upregulated in tumors from many organs and control their progression. CXCL12 and CXCL11 affect tumor cell functions by either binding their prime receptors, CXCR4 and CXCR3, respectively, and/or CXCR7 as a common second chemokine receptor. In humans, CXCR3 exists in the functional splice variants, CXCR3A and CXCR3B, which either have pro- or anti-tumor activity, respectively. Despite the intimate crosstalk between the CXCL12- and CXCL11-system, the impact of a combination of CXCL12 and CXCL11 on tumor progression remains vague. METHODS In the present work, we have analyzed CXCL12 and CXCL11 for combined effects on migration, invasion, proliferation, and cytostatic-induced apoptosis of the human tumor cells, A549, A767, A772, DLD-1, and MDA-MB-231. RESULTS We demonstrate that the mode of interaction differs with respect to cell type and function and allows for either potentiation, attenuation or no changes of cellular responses. The divergent responses are not the result of the distinct use of different CXCL12- and CXCL11-receptors by the respective tumor cells, but in case of cell migration seem to be associated with the activation of p38 signaling pathways. CONCLUSIONS Our findings point to therapeutic limitations of ongoing efforts to selectively target CXCR3, CXCR4, or CXCR7 in cancer patients, and rather favor individualized targeting strategies
