Kinetics and mechanism of the reaction of acetonyl radical, CH3(CO)CH2, with Br2
The low pressure fast discharge flow method with laser induced fluorescence detection of CH3C(O)CH2 was employed to study the kinetics of the reaction CH3C(O)CH2 + Br2 → CH3C(O)CH2Br + Br (1) at 298, 323 and 365 K. The rate coefficient at room temperature is k1 = (2.33 ± 0.04 (2σ)) 10–12 cm3 molecule–1 s–1, which increases slightly with increasing temperature. Quantum chemistry (G2) and theoretical rate theory (conventional TST) computations have supplied results in qualitative agreement with experiment. The relatively slow rate of reaction (1) can be due to the resonance stabilization of the acetonyl radical.

Use of a recombinant pseudorabies virus to analyze motor cortical reorganization after unilateral facial denervation
A unilateral facial nerve injury (n7x) was found to influence the transcallosal spread of the attenuated strain of pseudorabies virus (PRV Bartha) from the affected (left) primary motor cortex (MI) to the contralateral MI of rats. We used Ba-DupLac, a recombinant PRV strain, for the tracing experiments since this virus was demonstrated to exhibit much more restricted transportation kinetics than that of PRV Bartha, and is therefore more suitable for studies of neuronal plasticity. Ba-Duplac injection primarily infected several neurons around the penetration channel, but hardly any transcallosally infected neurons were observed in the contraleral MI. In contrast, after right facial nerve injury, Ba-DupLac was transported from the primarily infected neurons in the left MI to the contralateral side, and resulted in the labeling of several neurons due to a transneuronal infection. These results reveal that a peripheral nerve injury induces changes in the Ba-DupLac infection pattern in the related cortical areas. These findings and the literature data suggest that this phenomenon may be related to the changes in the expression or to the redistribution of cell-adhesion molecules, which are known to facilitate the entrance and/or transmission of PRV into neurons
Screening and Ranking Methodology Applied to Biochars Aimed at Acidic and Calcareous Sandy Soil Improvement
The application of biochar (the by-product of biomass pyrolysis), as a soil amendment has been accepted as a sustainable solution to improve soil quality. The current study aims to establish a decision support tool for characterizing, ranking, and selecting biochars of different origins for soil improvement, thereby contributing to the development of a systematic approach, which lacks in the existing literature.The development of a Multi-Criteria Decision Support Approach applying a banded and weighted rating and scoring system allowed the selection and ranking of various biochars suitable for improving sandy soils before application. First, 14 selected, different biochar products (produced from industrial by-products, herbaceous, wood-based and manure-based feedstocks) were characterized with several physicochemical, biological and ecotoxicological methods taking into account both the technological and the environmental efficiency aspects of biochar utilization. Then, a system for the assessment and ranking of biochars for acidic, and calcareous neutral sandy soil improvement was developed, which could be flexibly adapted to different soil problems as well. Based on their performance in the tests, scores from (−5) to (+5) were assigned to each biochar. As a result, the grain husks and paper fiber sludge biochar was ranked as the most suitable for both acidic and neutral calcareous sandy soil improvement, with 55 and 43 scores, respectively (from the maximum 100). The applicability of this innovative multicriteria scoring-ranking system, as a tool for potential biochar users, was verified in microcosms and field-scale experiments, demonstrating the positive influence of this biochar on the acidic sandy soil
Terápiás kihívások nehezen kezelhető, penetráló Crohn-betegségben – multidiszciplináris megoldás [Therapeutic challenges in difficult-to-treat, penetrating Crohn’s disease – a multidisciplinary approach]
A rectovaginalis fistula a penetráló Crohn-betegség ritka szövődménye, jelenléte esetén a gyógyszeres kezelés és a sebészeti beavatkozás együttes alkalmazása javasolt. Habár perianalis sipollyal szövődött Crohn-betegség esetén a TNFα-blokkolók hatékonyak lehetnek, rectovaginalis fistula esetén kisebb hatékonyság mutatkozik, feltehetően anatómiai okok, valamint a gyulladás talaján megváltozott szövetekbe történő csökkent penetrációs készség miatt. Az újabb biologikumok és kis molekulájú szerek hatékonyságáról és biztonságosságáról penetráló Crohn-betegségben kevés adat áll rendelkezésünkre. Esetünk egy fiatal penetráló Crohn-beteg nőről szól, aki közepesen súlyos/súlyos betegségaktivitás és kiújuló rectovaginalis fistula miatt több vonalbeli biológiai kezelésben részesült. Ultimum refugium ként deviáló ileostoma képzése történt, illetve upadacitinib indult ötödik terápiás vonalként. 12 hetes indukciót követően a rectovaginalis sipoly teljes bezáródását, valamint a vastagbél teljes szakaszán komplett nyálkahártya-gyógyulást tapasztaltunk. Az ileostoma zárását aktivitásfokozódás vagy fistulakiújulás nem követte. A szelektív JAK1-gátló upadacitinib hatékonynak mutatkozott stomaképzést követően, nehezen kezelhető, közepesen súlyos-súlyos luminalis aktivitást mutató, recidív rectovaginalis fistulával szövődött Crohn-betegségben. Somatic mosaicism of the PIK3CA gene identified in a Hungarian girl with macrodactyly and syndactyly.
Isolated macrodactyly (OMIM 155500) belongs to a heterogeneous group of overgrowth syndromes. It is a congenital anomaly resulting in enlargement of all tissues localized to the terminal portions of a limb and caused by somatic mutations in the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase catalytic alpha (PIK3CA, OMIM 171834) gene. Here we report a Hungarian girl with macrodactyly and syndactyly. Genetic screening at hotspots in the PIK3CA gene identified a mosaic mutation (c.1624G > A, p.Glu542Lys) in the affected tissue, but not in the peripheral blood. To date, this somatic mutation has been reported in eight patients affected by different forms of segmental overgrowth syndromes. Detailed analysis of the Hungarian child and previously reported cases suggests high phenotypic diversity associated with the p.Glu542Lys somatic mutation.
