The systolic constant of orientable Bieberbach 3-manifolds

A compact manifold is called Bieberbach if it carries a flat Riemannian metric. Bieberbach manifolds are aspherical, therefore the supremum of their systolic ratio, over the set of Riemannian metrics, is finite by a fundamental result of M. Gromov. We study the optimal systolic ratio of compact of $3$-dimensional orientable Bieberbach manifolds which are not tori, and prove that it cannot be realized by a flat metric. We also highlight a metric that we construct on one type of such manifolds ($C_2$) which has interesting geometric properties : it is extremal in its conformal class and the systole is realized by "very many" geodesics.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figure

Further, the energy balance of the cooling system and accumulated yearly electricity consumption for the data center in Baku, Azerbaijan, is calculated based on weather measurements during the past three years

Açorianos no sul do Brasil : representações literárias de uma promessa vã

A proposta deste artigo é realizar uma breve introdução à obra Um quarto de légua em quadro, romance de estréia de Luiz Antônio de Assis Brasil, publicado pela editora Movimento de Porto Alegre em meados dos anos 1970. Situada entre 1752 e 1753, no sul do Brasil, a narrativa está centrada nas circunstâncias da vinda dos primeiros açorianos para a porção mais meridional da colônia portuguesa na América. O texto do romance reproduz nas personagens e suas vivências a condição da diáspora experimentada pelos ilhéus no sul do Brasil. Emerge desta narrativa um refinado conceito de identidade que guarda pouca relação com uma suposta condição substancial de “açoriano”, revelando, desta forma, inúmeras outras identificações com o “lugar de origem”, além das diversas oposições a seus vários outros
