The World of Jesus in the Words of Jesus

The scope of this thesis is limited to the words of Jesus as found in a Red-letter edition of the Authorized Version of the Bible. From these words of Jesus, terms and phrases were chosen that had, or appeared to have allusions to the world of the first century after Christ. These terms and phrases were then arranged into related categories as indicated by the chapter headings. Intensive reading was then done in the works and writings of missionaries and travelers in Palestine, of professional archaeologists and Orientalists. In this reading special attention was given to data which shed light on the background of these terms and phrases used by Jesus. It must be pointed out here that the religious life of Jesus\u27 time was not treated. Such a study would be a lengthy treatise in itself

Evaluation of Wood and Pulp Properties Using Increment Core Samples

Research on wood quality-pulp quality relationships has increased greatly during the past five years. Fiber dimensions, fiber strength and fiber-to-fiber bonding have been shown to be the major wood properties influencing pulp quality. When knowledge of wood quality-pulp quality relationships is coupled with mounting evidence regarding genetic and environmental influence on wood quality, the need for adequate nondestructive wood and paper quality evaluation techniques becomes apparent

The structure of β-uranium

During a review of the various structures of uranium, one of us discovered indexing errors that affected a number of the investigations of the β allotrope. These errors have been corrected, and least-squares refinements performed in the three possible space groups, P4_2/mnm, P4_2nm, and P4n2, with resulting R_I values of 0.28, 0.24, and 0.28, respectively. It is concluded that the β-uranium powder data (Thewlis, 1952) cannot be used to determine the correct space group
