Kemampuan Ikan Sepat Siam (Trichogaster Pectoralis) Dalam Mengendalikan Populasi Kiapu (Pistia Stratiotes)

Trichogaster pectoralis is a root grazer fish and it may be used to control the population of aquatic weeds such as Pistia stratiotes. To understand the ability of the fish in controlling the weed, a laboratory scaled research has been conducted from May-June 2016. There were 5 treatments applied, namely ±25 (Bm25), ±50 (Bm50), ±75 grams fish (Bm75) that were reared in 16 liter tank completed with ±50 grams P. stratiotes. As controls, ±50 grams weed was reared in tank without any fish (Kk50) and ±50 grams fish (Ki50) was reared in tank without weed. Results shown that T. pectoralis was able to control P. stratiotes population. Each treatment speed up the decrement of P. stratiotes population, but the best result was shown by Bm75. In this treatment, the population of P. stratiotes reduced into 2.7 grams by the 28th day

Comparative Study on Stomach Content Analysis of Snakehead Fish (Channa Striata, BLOCH 1793) From the Sibam and Kulim Rivers, Riau Province

Snakehead fish (Channa striata) inhabits the Sibam River that has polluted water and the Kulim River that has good water quality. As the quality of water affects the availability of food resources, it may influence the stomach content of the fish. A research aims to understand the stomach content of the fish was conducted on January-March 2017. The Index of Preponderance (IP) was calculated. There were 32 fishes from the Sibam River and 56 fishes from the Kulim River. Results shown that the main food of the snakehead fish was fish, IP value was 89% and 94% in the Sibam and Kulim Rivers respectively. Other types of food present in stomach of the Kulim's fish were insect, bivalve and crustacean, but there was no crustacean in the Sibam's fish. Data obtained shown that the water quality affect the availability of the snakehead fish food in general, as the fish food from the Kulim River is more various

Inventarisation and Identification of Fish in the Tangun River, Pekanbaru, Riau Province

Tangun River is one of the Kampar Kanan River tributaries. During the rainy season, however, the water level of the Kampar River increase, flow to the Tangun River and enable fish to enter that river. As the information of fish present in that fish is rare, a study aims to inventarize and identify fish that inhabit that river was conducted in Februari-April 2016. Samplings were conducted weekly and the captured fishes were then identified based on Kottelat et al (1993) dan (2013). There were 707 fish sampled and they were belonged to 17 species (6 Ordos, 13 Families). The common fish in the river were Esomus metallicus, Pterygoplichthys pardalis, Poecilia reticula, and Trichogaster trichopterus, while the rare fishes were Trichopsis vittata, Ompok hypophthalmus and Helostoma temminckii

Comparative Study on Reproductive Biology of Snakehead Fish (Channa Striata, Bloch 1793) From the Sibam and Kulim Rivers, Riau Province

Snakehead fish (Channa striata) is present in the Kulim River that has relatively good water quality, as well as in the Sibam River that has polluted water. To understand the reproductive biology of snakehead fish from those rivers, a study has been conducted from January to March 2017. There were 23 fishes from the Sibam River, and 53 fishes from the Kulim River. Results shown that the reproductive biology of the fish from those areas are different. In the Sibam River, the GSI of the male was 0.01-0.41 and that of the female was 0.12-4.38, with 0.8-1.2 mm egg diameter and 45,774-60,751 fecundity. While in the fish from the Kulim River, the male's GSI was 0.03-1.82, the female's was 0.07-6.04, the egg diameter was 0.8-1.6 mm and the fecundity was 16,027-88,648 eggs/fish. Data obtained shown that the water quality affects the reproductive biology of snakehead fish in general, as the reproductive biology of fish from the Kulim River is better

Stomach Content Analysis of Osprhonemus Gouramy Lac From the Pinang Luar Oxbow Lake, Buluhcina Village, Kampar Regency, Riau Province

Osphronemus gouramy Lac is one of freshwater fish that inhabit the Pinang Luar Lake. This fish is the most common fish in the lake, but information on its stomach content is rare. A research aims to understand the stomach content had been conducted from March-April 2017. Sampling was conducted once/ week for a one month period. There were 67 fishes captured. Stomach contents were analyzed as a basis for calculating the Preponderance Index (PI). The analysis was conducted using the gravimetric method. Results shown that in all fish captured, the content of the stomach consists of aquatic plant stem, leaves, fish scales and insect remains (shell and legs). The main food of O. gouramy is plant materials (94%). Based on the data obtained, this fish can be categorized as herbivore

Diversity of Bivalve and Gastropod in the Coastal Waters of Kundur Island Karimun Regency Kepulauan Riau Province

Coastal waters of Kundur Island is inhabit by marine organisms, including bivalve and gastropod. A research aims to determine the diversity of bivalve and gastropod in the coastal waters of the Kundur Island was conducted on Desember 2015-January 2016. Samples were taken at eight stations. Bivalve and gastropod indentification was based on Dharma (1992), Roberts et al. (1982), Morris (1966) and Abbott (1991). There were 10 species of bivalves and 28 species of gastropods present. The is highest bivalves and gastropods density were in the station 3, there was 6 organisms / m2 and the lowest was in the station 1 which was 3 organisms/ m2. Nerita funiculata shown the highest relative density (57%) while Ostrea lurida was the lowest (0.3%). The diversity index (H\u27) ranged from 1.28-2.81 (average), the evenness index (E) was 0.60-0.82. The dominant index (C) was 0.25-0.54, and it means that there was not dominant species. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the coastal waters of the Kundur Island is categorized as good

Behavior of Ompok Hypophthalmus Reared Under Different Photoperiod

Fish behavior is affected by environmental condition, including photoperiod. Tounderstand the effects of different photoperiod toward O. hypophthalmus behavior, astudy has been conducted in Oktober 2015. The fish was reared in fiber tanks size100cm X 50cm dan height 40cm with water circulation system. The tanks were placedunder plastic tents that were completed with light bulb and timer to adjust the time. There were 5 treatments applied, namely Control (natural photoperiod), 24 hours dark(24D), 16 dark and 8 hours light (16D8L), 8 dark and 16 hours light (8D16L) and 24hours light (24L). Fish behavior was monitored hourly for a 72 hours periodcontinuously. Swimming and schooling activities, fish position and respons to light andfood were noted. Results shown that the photoperiod clearly affects the behavior offish. During the dark, fish tend to be in the surface, swimming actively, do not form agroup, sensitive to light and very agresive to take food provided. In contrast, during thelight period, fish less active, tend to form a group in the bottom of the tank, lesssensitive to light and less aggresive in taking food. Based on data obtained, it can beconcluded that photoperiod is affect the behavior of fish in general
