The perception of poaching in telecommunication firms and its effect on employee morale: The case of MTN Ghana
Thesis submitted to the Department of Business Administration, Ashesi University College, in partial fulfillment of Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, April 2015This study sought to find out perceptions of employee poaching by employees in telecommunication firms and how these perceptions affected their morale. A survey was conducted in which 30 questionnaires were administered and 27 filled. Results showed that 92% of the population had a positive perception of poaching with 8% having negative perceptions. When a regression analysis was done on the data received, in order to test the significance of the relationship between the variables, p-value for significance did not meet the standard which implies that there is not significant relationship between the variables. According to these results, employee perceptions of poaching do not have any effect on morale.Ashesi University CollegeGrade: less than
Maximizing the Use of Mathematics Laboratory for Effective Understanding of Basic Science and Mathematics Concept
The study sought to investigate the maximal use of the mathematics laboratory for effective understanding of basic science and mathematics concepts. To achieve the purpose of this study, one null hypothesis was formulated. An experimental design was employed for this study. Fifty (50) SS2 students were obtained across six (6) senior secondary schools in Akamkpa local government area of cross river state. Using a simple random sampling technique they were divided into two groups of twenty five (25) students each. The first group was called the experimental group; these groups of students were taught basic science and mathematics concepts using the laboratory; the second group was called the controlled group; these groups of students were taught basic science and mathematics concept in a conventional or normal classroom. The instrument for data collection was a self-structured practical test questionnaire title: EFFECTIVE USE OF MATHEMATICS LABORATORY TEST (EUMLT).With reliability index of 0.87. The hypothesis was tested using the independent t-test analysis at p>0.05 level of significance, the result showed a mean score of 10.09 of the experimental group which was higher than the mean score of 8.02 for the controlled group. The analysis reveals that students who were taught mathematics and basic science using the laboratory were better than those who were not taught. Several recommendations were posed on the need for the use of mathematics laboratories in teaching and learning of basic concepts in our secondary schools. Import Response And Inflationary Pressures In The New Economy: The Quantity Theory Of Money Revisited
Contending with the rationale for rate increases to counter inflationary pressures, this study revisits the quantity theory of money and the equation of exchange developed in the sixteenth century by the likes of John Locke, John Law, etc., and popularized over the years by economists, such as Adam Smith, David Ricardo, and Irvin Fisher to predict the response of some variables, especially imports of goods and services, on the rate of inflation. The vector autoregression (VAR) process was used to estimate the model. Results show that import is significant in its impact in the reduction of the growth rate of CPI inflation, thereby dampening the weight of inflationary pressures on economic policy formulations. Because of present economic environment, coupled with author’s fulfilled seven-year prediction, the urgency of incorporating this into our economic policy determination cannot be overemphasized
The Control of Malaria among PLWHA in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria
The purpose of the study was to examine RBM programme’s efforts at controlling malaria among PLWHA and explore their perception of the control strategies. The study was a descriptive survey involving guided interviews of top managers of Roll Back Malaria (RBM) programme. A structured questionnaire was administered to 108 PLWHA attending an HIV/AIDS clinic in a secondary health facility in Calabar. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Thematic analysis revealed that RBM programme strategies include effective case management, promotion of Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLINs), intermittent preventive treatment (IPT) and integrated vector management (IVM). Complementary results showed that 104 (92%) admitted accessibility to malarial treatment. Although 83 (57.7%) of PLWHA have LLINs, only 63 (42.3%) use them. Majority of the respondents 89 (60%) have not heard of indoor/outdoor residual spraying (IRS). How to get IRS services and lack of money to buy it were listed as a barrier to its use. Malarial treatment was accessible to PLWHA. The barriers to the use of ITN and IRS could be addressed through free distribution of odorless ITN and IRS to PLWHA. Higher rates of utilization of the products can be achieved through behavioural change communication
Productive Efficiency And Optimal Firm Size: The Case Of US Health Services Industry
This paper examines the link between firm size and productive efficiency. In so doing, it attempts to determine optimal firm sizes in terms of market capitalization and total asset thereby allowing firms to achieve higher level of productive efficiency. The results indicate that the optimal firm size in terms of market capitalization is 10.3 billion. The results also suggest that there is a threshold above which an increase in firm size adversely affects the level of productive efficiency. The results have important implications for managerial policies regarding firm restructuring. To achieve higher productive efficiency, smaller firms have to pursue expansion strategies through mergers and acquisitions. Larger firms, on the other hand, have to pursue divestment strategies to reduce the size of their assets, particularly by refocusing on core competencies
Assessing Nurses’ Capacity for Health Research and Policy Engagement in Nigeria
Nurses account for a significant proportion of the health care workforce in most countries. In the African continent, it is estimated that nurses constitute about 80% of the health care professionals, however they are marginally represented in health research investigations and policy/decision-making roles. A descriptive research design was used to obtain data from 120 registered nurses in Calabar municipality, Nigeria. The study aimed at assessing the extent of nurses’ involvement in research and policy development. The findings revealed that only 30(25.0%) of the respondents indicated that they had been involved in research activity. Majority 74(61.7%) utilized research findings and perceived research as a tool to enhance development of nursing. 93(77.5%) respondents were not aware of any financial support for research and only 4(3.3%) had ever received research grant to support research activities. The results also revealed minimal 8(6.7%) involvement of nurses in health care policy development. A significant relationship (P \u3c 0.05) existed between nursing educational qualification and involvement in research activities after school. These findings therefore suggest the building of supportive research environments and strengthening nurses’ research capacity for effective participation of nurses in health care policy decisions in low and middle income countries (LMICs) and global health priorities
