AN ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A SAFETY PROGRAM TO CONTROL OCCUPATIONAL ACCIDENTS. A CASE STUDY ON THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY

This thesis presents a case study with respect to the implementation of an Occupational Safety Program in a chemical plant, based on the Process Safety Program, PSP, in place in a large energy company. An exploratory qualitative research was conducted gathering data from documents and bibliographic material. This thesis presents the main tasks to be carried out in order for the Safety Program to thrive in a chemical plant, the associated results and input on the better development of the program. The results achieved show that the implementation of a Safety Program must be an ongoing activity, seeking improvement on a continuing basis.Esta dissertação apresenta o estudo de caso relativo à implantação de um Programa de Segurança do Trabalho em uma indústria química, baseado no Process Safety Program, PSP, de uma grande empresa de energia. A pesquisa foi aplicada, exploratória, qualitativa e com método de coleta de dados através de pesquisa documental e bibliográfica. Serão apresentadas as principais práticas adotadas para tornar o Programa de Segurança uma realidade dentro de uma indústria química, seus resultados e contribuições para o seu melhor desenvolvimento. Os resultados obtidos identificam que a implantação de um Programa de Segurança deve ser continuo, sempre procurando a melhoria contínua

IMPLEMENTATION OF A SAFETY PROGRAM FOR THE WORK ACCIDENTS’ CONTROL. A CASE STUDY IN THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY

This article presents a case study related to the implementation of a Work Safety Program in a chemical industry, based on the Process Safety Program, PSP, of a huge energy company. The research was applied, exploratory, qualitative and with and data collection method through documentary and bibliographical research. There will be presented the main practices adopted in order to make the Safety Program a reality inside a chemical industry, its results and contributions for its better development. This paper proposes the implementation of a Safety Program must be preceded by a diagnosis of occupational safety and health management system and with constant critical analysis in order to make the necessary adjustments
