    PERCEPTION AND ATTITUDE OF FUNAAB UNDERGRADUATES TOWARDS PERSONS WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITIES (PWPDs)

    The study focused on the perception and attitude of FUNAAB undergraduates towards students with physical disabilities. Two hundred and forty students were randomly selected for the study, and questionnaire tagged “PAPPD†was the instrument used for data collection which was administered to the 240 students. Only 227 students that filled and returned their questionnaire were engaged in the study. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was 0.83 using Cronbach Alpha. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistical tool and Analysis of variance. Result shows that majority of the students 112(49.3%) perceived students with physical disabilities as normal people, 107(47.1%) perceived them as friends. The findings also showed that majority 130(57.3%) indicated that they love rendering help to students with physical disabilities because they are also human beings. In general, result showed that there is no significant difference in the perception and attitude of students towards students with physical disabilities irrespective of their ages, colleges and departments. Therefore, awareness programmes such as seminars should be mounted within the University system from time to time so as to enhance positive attitude and perception of undergraduates towards Persons with Physical Disabilities (PWPDs)Â

    PERCEPTION ON DATING, COURTSHIP AND MARRIAGE AMONG UNDERGRADUATES IN FEDERAL TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN OGUN STATE

    The study examined the perception on dating, courtship and marriage amongst undergraduates in Federal Tertiary Institutions in Ogun State. The study adopted a survey design. The sample size consisted of 445 students using random sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire constructed by the researchers. Results indicated that 57.8%  were of the opinion that marriage shouldn’t be an obligation as it is in our society, 77.5% agreed that to be adequately prepared for adulthood, dating must be practiced, the study also revealed that 97.1% agreed that courtship prepares individuals for marriage life. The study further indicated that there was a significant relationship between undergraduates perception on courtship and mother’s educational level with a value of (χ2 = 13.21. P <0.05). The study concluded that dating helps in the development of adolescents but could pose dangers if not properly practiced, courtship is a structured relationship leading to a long lasting union. It is recommended that practices of sexual adventures a as a result of dating calls for family life education as it would equip young people with knowledge on dating. &nbsp

    PREVALENCE OF MALNUTRITION AND SELECTED RISK FACTORS OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES AMONG PRIMARY HEALTHCARE WORKERS IN TWO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS OF OGUN STATE, NIGERIA

    Overnutrition resulting in overweight and obesity increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. This study was carried out to assess the prevalence of malnutrition and some selected risk factors of cardiovascular diseases among primary healthcare workers in two Local Government Areas of Ogun State, Nigeria. An exhaustive sampling method was used, resulting in 220 eligible respondents. Anthropometric measurements were taken while body mass index (BMI) and abdominal obesity were calculated. Blood pressure and glucose level of the subjects were measured. Data were presented using frequency, percentage and Chi-Square tests to establish relationships among variables. Higher percentage (35.5%) of the respondents were of normal BMI category while prevalence of underweight, overweight and obesity were found to be 7.7%, 25.9% and 30.9%, respectively. Abdominal obesity was found among 58.2% of the respondents while high blood pressure was observed in 38.7%. Blood glucose was elevated in 20% of the subjects. Abdominal obesity, systolic and diastolic blood pressure of the respondents were found to be strongly associated with BMI (p<0.05). This study observed high prevalence of overnutrition (overweight and general obesity), elevated blood glucose, high blood pressure, and high abdominal obesity trend as factors which may expose the respondents to poor health in future.   &nbsp

    Teaching Science To Students With Special Needs

    This paper highlights the significance of science education to the students with special needs. It traced the evolution of science education in Nigeria school curriculum back to the inception of Western education in Nigeria since one hundred and twenty years ago. The concept of science and its definitions were briefly touched. The benefactors of special education or those refer to as special needs individuals are equally emphasized in the study. The paper equally emphasized the relevance of science to the children with special needs as a way of fulfilling their fundamental human rights. In order to achieve this, reference was made to conducive learning environment and appropriate teaching equipment to facilitate the teaching of science. Various strategies for teaching science to children with special needs were also discussed. It was concluded that the denial of science education to individuals with special needs due to their disabilities would amount to denying them their fundament human rights.
