Holographic three-point functions of giant gravitons
Working within the AdS/CFT correspondence we calculate the three-point
function of two giant gravitons and one pointlike graviton using methods of
semiclassical string theory and considering both the case where the giant
gravitons wrap an S^3 in S^5 and the case where the giant gravitons wrap an S^3
in AdS_5. We likewise calculate the correlation function in N=4 SYM using two
Schur polynomials and a single trace chiral primary. We find that the gauge and
string theory results have structural similarities but do not match perfectly,
and interpret this in terms of the Schur polynomials' inability to interpolate
between dual giant and pointlike gravitons.Comment: 21 page
Usefulness of ISN/RPS Classification of Lupus Nephritis
About 50-80% of patients with lupus suffer from lupus nephritis which is one of major causes of morbidity and mortality. Renal pathologists and nephrologists should evaluate the degree of histological damages to establish therapeutic plans for lupus nephritis. In order to standardize definitions, to emphasize clinically relevant lesions, and to improve interobserver reproducibility, the International Society of Nephrology/Renal Pathology Society (ISN/RPS) classification was proposed. Recently, several retrospective validation studies concerning the utility of the ISN/RPS classification, especially among class IV, were performed. In these reports, reproducibility is improved by the definition of diagnostic term, but the outcome related with classification, especially in class IV, is controversial. We performed retrospective analysis of 99 biopsy-proven subjects with lupus nephritis in our facility using the ISN/RPS classification. The class IV-G group tended to exhibit a worse renal outcome, but the difference compared with IV-S was not significant. In a Cox proportional hazards models, Independent histological predictors of poor renal outcome were extracapillary proliferation, glomerular sclerosis and fibrous crescents, while hyaline thrombi and fibrous adhesions were of favorable renal outcome. Both were similarly observed in IV-G and IV-S. The more qualitative categorization by the response to standard treatment may be needed to emphasize clinically relevant lesion related to renal outcome
Correlators of Vertex Operators for Circular Strings with Winding Numbers in AdS5xS5
We compute semiclassically the two-point correlator of the marginal vertex
operators describing the rigid circular spinning string state with one large
spin and one windining number in AdS_5 and three large spins and three winding
numbers in S^5. The marginality condition and the conformal invariant
expression for the two-point correlator obtained by using an appropriate vertex
operator are shown to be associated with the diagonal and off-diagonal Virasoro
constraints respectively. We evaluate semiclassically the three-point
correlator of two heavy circular string vertex operators and one zero-momentum
dilaton vertex operator and discuss its relation with the derivative of the
dimension of the heavy circular string state with respect to the string

Current challenges faced by the lodging operators in Sabah and Labuan
In the recent three years, the lodging industry in Sabah and Labuan has undergone rapid development with an estimated increase of more than 50 per cent in room inventory.
Coincidentally, most of the up-market lodging properties in Sabah were completed in the period of the economic downturn in East Asia in general and Malaysia, in particular. The purpose of our research is to study the possible forces which shaped the lodging industry and the major challenges faced by the lodging operators in Sabah and Labuan. This research is also to highlight the intensity of the identified challenges according to the different categories of lodging properties. A comparison will be made between the challenges encountered by the lodging operators in Sabah and Labuan and other countries. For the purpose of this research,the lodging properties are divided into three broad categories; the budget accommodations; the one, two and three-star hotels and the four and five-star hotels. Our research findings indicated that the current economic situation, the intensity of rivalry between the lodging operators, the increased in operation costs especially in cleaning chemicals, food and beverages, the reduction in consumer spending and the lack of skilled human resources are the major forces which challenge the lodging industry. In the early 1990s, countries like the
United States of America faced similar severe competition. Before the currency and stock market crisis in East Asia, Hong Kong and Thailand encountered the lack of skilled manpower owing to their robust expansion in the hotel industry

Socio-demographic differentials of adult health indicators in Matlab, Bangladesh: self-rated health, health state, quality of life and disability level
Background: Mortality has been declining in Bangladesh since the mid- twentieth century, while fertility has been declining since the late 1970s, and the country is now passing through the third stage of demographic transition. This type of demographic transition has produced a huge youthful population with a growing number of older people. For assessing health among older people, this study examines self-rated health, health state, quality of life and disability level in persons aged 50 and over. Data and methods: This is a collaborative study between the World Health Organization Study on global AGEing and adult health and the International Network for the Demographic Evaluation of Populations and Their Health in developing countries which collected data from eight countries. Two sources of data from the Matlab study area were used: health indicator data collected as a part of the study, together with the ongoing Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) data. For the survey, a total of 4,000 randomly selected people aged 50 and over (HDSS database) were interviewed. The four health indicators derived from these data are self-rated health (five categories), health state (eight domains), quality of life (eight items) and disability level (12 items). Self-rated health was coded as dummy while scores were calculated for the rest of the three health indicators using WHO-tested instruments. Results: After controlling for all the variables in the regression model, all four indicators of health (self-rated health, health state, quality of life and disability level) documented that health was better for males than females, and health deteriorates with increasing age. Those people who were in current partnerships had generally better health than those who were single, and better health was associated with higher levels of education and asset score. Conclusions: To improve the health of the population it is important to know health conditions in advance rather than just before death. This study finds that all four health indicators vary by socio-demographic characteristics. Effects of Onion (Allium cepa L.) Extract Administration on Intestinal α-Glucosidases Activities and Spikes in Postprandial Blood Glucose Levels in SD Rats Model
Diets high in calories and sweetened foods with disaccharides frequently lead to exaggerated postprandial spikes in blood glucose. This state induces immediate oxidant stress and free radicals which trigger oxidative stress-linked diabetic complications. One of the therapeutic approaches for decreasing postprandial hyperglycemia is to retard absorption of glucose by the inhibition of carbohydrate hydrolyzing enzymes, α-amylase and α-glucosidases, in the digestive organs. Therefore, the inhibitory activity of Korean onion (Allium cepa L.) extract against rat intestinal α-glucosidases, such as sucrase, maltase, and porcine pancreatic α-amylase were investigated in vitro and in vivo. The content of quercetin in ethyl alcohol extract of onion skin (EOS) was 6.04 g/100 g dried weight of onion skin. The in vitro half-maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC50) of EOS and quercetin, a major phenolic in onion, on rat intestinal sucrase were 0.40 and 0.11 mg/mL, respectively. The postprandial blood glucose lowering effects of EOS and quercetin were compared to a known type 2 diabetes drug (Acarbose), a strong α-glucosidase inhibitor in the Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat model. In rats fed on sucrose, EOS significantly reduced the blood glucose spike after sucrose loading. The area under the blood glucose-time curve (AUClast) in EOS-treated SD rats (0.5 g-EOS/kg) was significantly lower than in untreated SD rats (259.6 ± 5.1 vs. 283.1 ± 19.2 h·mg/dL). The AUClast in quercetin-treated SD rats (0.5 g-quercetin/kg) was similar to in EOS-treated group (256.1 ± 3.2 vs. 259.6 ± 5.1 h·mg/dL). Results from this study indicates that although quercetin does have blood glucose lowering potential via α-glucosidase inhibition, there are other bioactive compounds present in onion skin. Furthermore, the effects of two weeks administration of EOS in a high carbohydrate-dietary mixture (Pico 5053) on sucrase and maltase activities in intestine were evaluated in SD rat model. Compared to the upper and middle parts of intestine, the activities of sucrase in the lower parts of intestine remained significantly higher after two weeks of EOS treatment. These results indicate that EOS may improve exaggerated postprandial spikes in blood glucose and glucose homeostasis since it inhibits intestinal sucrase and thus delays carbohydrate absorption, although clinical trials are needed
Collective Excitations of Holographic Quantum Liquids in a Magnetic Field
We use holography to study N=4 supersymmetric SU(Nc) Yang-Mills theory in the
large-Nc and large-coupling limits coupled to a number Nf << Nc of
(n+1)-dimensional massless supersymmetric hypermultiplets in the Nc
representation of SU(Nc), with n=2,3. We introduce a temperature T, a baryon
number chemical potential mu, and a baryon number magnetic field B, and work in
a regime with mu >> T,\sqrt{B}. We study the collective excitations of these
holographic quantum liquids by computing the poles in the retarded Green's
function of the baryon number charge density operator and the associated peaks
in the spectral function. We focus on the evolution of the collective
excitations as we increase the frequency relative to T, i.e. the
hydrodynamic/collisionless crossover. We find that for all B, at low
frequencies the tallest peak in the spectral function is associated with
hydrodynamic charge diffusion. At high frequencies the tallest peak is
associated with a sound mode similar to the zero sound mode in the
collisionless regime of a Landau Fermi liquid. The sound mode has a gap
proportional to B, and as a result for intermediate frequencies and for B
sufficiently large compared to T the spectral function is strongly suppressed.
We find that the hydrodynamic/collisionless crossover occurs at a frequency
