User-centric QoE-driven vertical handover framework in heterogeneous wireless networks
© 2016 IEEE. With advances in wireless technology and the increase in popularity of mobile devices, more and more people now rely on mobile devices for multimedia services (such as video streaming and video calls). A mobile device can be connected and roamed to different networks in heterogeneous wireless networks. The Media Independent Handover (MIH) framework is designed by the IEEE 802.21 group to support seamless vertical handover between different networks. However, how to select an appropriate network from available ones and when to execute the handover remain the key challenges in MIH. This paper proposes a user-centric QoE-driven vertical handover (VHO) framework, based on MIH, which aims to maintain acceptable QoE of different mobile application services and to select an appropriate network based on users' preferences (e.g. on cost). Further a user-centric QoE-driven algorithm is implemented in the proposed framework. Its performance is evaluated and compared with two other VHO algorithms based on Network Simulator 2 (NS2) for video streaming services over heterogeneous networks. The preliminary results show that the proposed algorithm can maintain better QoE and at the same time, take into account user's preference on cost when compared with the other two algorithms
EFSA Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF); Scientific Opinion on Flavouring Group Evaluation 12, Revision 2 (FGE.12Rev2): Primary saturated or unsaturated alicyclic alcohol, aldehyde, acid, and esters from chemical group 7
The Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids of the European Food Safety Authority was requested to evaluate 10 flavouring substances in the Flavouring Group Evaluation 12 (FGE.12), including an additional substance in revision 3, using the Procedure in Commission Regulation (EC) No 1565/2000. This revision is made due to inclusion of one additional flavouring substance, 2,6,6-trimethylcyclohex-2-ene-1-carboxaldehyde [FL-no: 05.182]. None of the substances were considered to have genotoxic potential. The substances were evaluated through a stepwise approach (the Procedure) that integrates information on structure-activity relationships, intake from current uses, toxicological threshold of concern, and available data on metabolism and toxicity. The Panel concluded that all 10 substances [FL-no: 02.134, 02.186, 05.157, 05.182, 05.183, 05.198, 08.135, 09.342, 09.670 and 09.829] do not give rise to safety concerns at their levels of dietary intake, estimated on the basis of the MSDI approach. Besides the safety assessment of these flavouring substances, the specifications for the materials of commerce have also been considered. Specifications including complete purity criteria and identity for the materials of commerce have been provided for all 10 candidate substances
Microstructural evolution under low shear rates during Rheo processing of LM25 alloy
© ASM InternationalMicrostructural features of LM25 alloy processed by two different routes: (1) conventional casting, and(2)shear casting based on inclined heated surface are studied. The microstructures of the primary phase for the shear-cast samples show rosette or ellipsoidal morphologies. Heat transfer of contacting melt with the
inclined tube surface and shear stress exerted on the layers of the melt as result of gravitational force are crucial parameters for the microstructural evolution. Compared to those produced by conventional casting, shear-cast samples have a much improved tensile strength and ductility due to globular microstructure

The momentum analyticity of two-point correlators from perturbation theory and AdS/CFT
The momentum plane analyticity of two point function of a relativistic
thermal field theory at zero chemical potential is explored. A general
principle regarding the location of the singularities is extracted. In the case
of the N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at large , a qualitative
change in the nature of the singularity (branch points versus simple poles)
from the weak coupling regime to the strong coupling regime is observed with
the aid of the AdS/CFT correspondence.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures, typos fixed, 1 figure update
Sign-reversal of the in-plane resistivity anisotropy in hole-doped iron pnictides
The in-plane anisotropy of the electrical resistivity across the coupled
orthorhombic and magnetic transitions of the iron pnictides has been
extensively studied in the parent and electron-doped compounds. All these
studies universally show that the resistivity across the long
orthorhombic axis - along which the spins couple antiferromagnetically
below the magnetic transition temperature - is smaller than the resistivity
of the short orthorhombic axis , i. e. .
Here we report that in the hole-doped compounds
BaKFeAs, as the doping level increases, the
resistivity anisotropy initially becomes vanishingly small, and eventually
changes sign for sufficiently large doping, i. e. . This
observation is in agreement with a recent theoretical prediction that considers
the anisotropic scattering of electrons by spin-fluctuations in the
orthorhombic/nematic state.Comment: This paper has been replaced by the new version offering new

Genome-wide signatures of convergent evolution in echolocating mammals
Evolution is typically thought to proceed through divergence of genes, proteins, and ultimately phenotypes(1-3). However, similar traits might also evolve convergently in unrelated taxa due to similar selection pressures(4,5). Adaptive phenotypic convergence is widespread in nature, and recent results from a handful of genes have suggested that this phenomenon is powerful enough to also drive recurrent evolution at the sequence level(6-9). Where homoplasious substitutions do occur these have long been considered the result of neutral processes. However, recent studies have demonstrated that adaptive convergent sequence evolution can be detected in vertebrates using statistical methods that model parallel evolution(9,10) although the extent to which sequence convergence between genera occurs across genomes is unknown. Here we analyse genomic sequence data in mammals that have independently evolved echolocation and show for the first time that convergence is not a rare process restricted to a handful of loci but is instead widespread, continuously distributed and commonly driven by natural selection acting on a small number of sites per locus. Systematic analyses of convergent sequence evolution in 805,053 amino acids within 2,326 orthologous coding gene sequences compared across 22 mammals (including four new bat genomes) revealed signatures consistent with convergence in nearly 200 loci. Strong and significant support for convergence among bats and the dolphin was seen in numerous genes linked to hearing or deafness, consistent with an involvement in echolocation. Surprisingly we also found convergence in many genes linked to vision: the convergent signal of many sensory genes was robustly correlated with the strength of natural selection. This first attempt to detect genome-wide convergent sequence evolution across divergent taxa reveals the phenomenon to be much more pervasive than previously recognised
Controlled interfacial assembly of 2D curved colloidal crystals and jammed shells
Assembly of colloidal particles on fluid interfaces is a promising technique
for synthesizing two-dimensional micro-crystalline materials useful in fields
as diverse as biomedicine1, materials science2, mineral flotation3 and food
processing4. Current approaches rely on bulk emulsification methods, require
further chemical and thermal treatments, and are restrictive with respect to
the materials employed5-9. The development of methods that exploit the great
potential of interfacial assembly for producing tailored materials have been
hampered by the lack of understanding of the assembly process. Here we report a
microfluidic method that allows direct visualization and understanding of the
dynamics of colloidal crystal growth on curved interfaces. The crystals are
periodically ejected to form stable jammed shells, which we refer to as
colloidal armour. We propose that the energetic barriers to interfacial crystal
growth and organization can be overcome by targeted delivery of colloidal
particles through hydrodynamic flows. Our method allows an unprecedented degree
of control over armour composition, size and stability.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure
Back reaction, emission spectrum and entropy spectroscopy
Recently, an interesting work, which reformulates the tunneling framework to
directly produce the Hawking emission spectrum and entropy spectroscopy in the
tunneling picture, has been received a broad attention. However, during the
emission process, most related observations have not incorporated the effects
of back reaction on the background spacetime, whose derivations are therefore
not the desiring results for the real physical process. With this point as a
central motivation, in this paper we suitably adapt the \emph{reformulated}
tunneling framework so that it can well accommodate the effects of back
reaction to produce the Hawking emission spectrum and entropy spectroscopy.
Consequently, we interestingly find that, when back reaction is considered, the
Parikh-Wilczek's outstanding observations that, an isolated radiating black
hole has an unitary-evolving emission spectrum that is \emph{not} precisely
thermal, but is related to the change of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, can
also be reproduced in the reformulated tunneling framework, meanwhile the
entropy spectrum has the same form as that without inclusion of back reaction,
which demonstrates the entropy quantum is \emph{independent} of the effects of
back reaction. As our final analysis, we concentrate on the issues of the black
hole information, but \emph{unfortunately} find that, even including the
effects of back reaction and higher-order quantum corrections, such tunneling
formalism can still not provide a mechanism for preserving the black hole
information.Comment: 16 pages, no figure, use JHEP3.cls. to be published in JHE
