Mixture of multiple copies of maximally entangled states is quasi-pure

Employing the general BXOR operation and local state discrimination, the mixed state of the form \rho^{(k)}_{d}=\frac{1}{d^{2}}\sum_{m,n=0}^{d-1}(|\phi_{mn}><\phi_{mn}|)^{\otim es k} is proved to be quasi-pure, where {ϕmn>}\{|\phi_{mn}>\} is the canonical set of mutually orthogonal maximally entangled states in d×dd\times d. Therefore irreversibility does not occur in the process of distillation for this family of states. Also, the distillable entanglement is calculated explicitly.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure. Quantum Field Kinetics

    Get PDF
Using the general framework of quantum field theory, we derive basic equations of quantum field kinetics. The main goal of this approach is to compute the observables associated with a quark-gluon plasma at different stages of its evolution. We start by rewriting the integral equations for the field correlators in different forms, depending on the relevant dynamical features at each different stage. Next, two versions of perturbation expansion are considered. The first is best suited for the calculation of electromagnetic emission from chaotic, but not equilibrated, strongly interacting matter. The second version allows one to derive evolution equations, which are generalizations of the familiar QCD evolution equations, and provide a basis for the calculation of the initial quark and gluon distributions after the first hard interaction of the heavy ions.Comment: 13 pages, REVTeX, 2 postscript figures appende

National Football League Skilled and Unskilled Positions Vary in Opportunity and Yield in Return to Play After an Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries pose a significant risk to the careers of players in the National Football League (NFL). The relationships between draft round and position on return to play (RTP) among NFL players are not well understood, and the ability to return to preinjury performance levels remains unknown for most positions. PURPOSE: To test for differences in RTP rates and changes in performance after an ACL injury by position and draft round. We hypothesized that skilled positions would return at a lower rate compared to unskilled positions. We further hypothesized that early draft-round status would relate to a greater rate of RTP and that skilled positions and a lower draft round would correlate with decreased performance for players who return to sport. STUDY DESIGN: Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS: Utilizing a previously established database of publicly available information regarding ACL tears among NFL players, athletes with ACL tears occurring between the 2010 and 2013 seasons were identified. Generalized linear models and Kaplan-Meier time-to-event models were used to test the study hypotheses. RESULTS: The overall RTP rate was 61.7%, with skilled players and unskilled players returning at rates of 64.1% and 60.4%, respectively (P = .74). Early draft-round players and unskilled late draft-round players had greater rates of RTP compared to skilled late draft-round players and both unskilled and skilled undrafted free agents (UDFAs). Skilled early draft-round players constituted the only cohort that played significantly fewer games after an injury. Unskilled UDFAs constituted the only cohort to show a significant increase in the number of games started and ratio of games started to games played, starting more games in which they played, after an injury. CONCLUSION: Early draft-round and unskilled players were more likely to return compared to their later draft-round and skilled peers. Skilled early draft-round players, who displayed relatively high rates of RTP, constituted the only cohort to show a decline in performance. Unskilled UDFAs, who exhibited relatively low rates of RTP, constituted the only cohort to show an increase in performance. The significant effect of draft round and position type on RTP may be caused by a combination of differences in talent levels and in opportunities given to returning to play

Hadronic Charmed Meson Decays Involving Tensor Mesons

Charmed meson decays into a pseudoscalar meson P and a tensor meson T are studied. The charm to tensor meson transition form factors are evaluated in the Isgur-Scora-Grinstein-Wise (ISGW) quark model. It is shown that the Cabibbo-allowed decay Ds+f2(1270)π+D_s^+\to f_2(1270)\pi^+ is dominated by the W-annihilation contribution and has the largest branching ratio in DTPD\to TP decays. We argue that the Cabibbo-suppressed mode D+f2(1270)π+D^+\to f_2(1270)\pi^+ should be suppressed by one order of magnitude relative to Ds+f2(1270)π+D_s^+\to f_2(1270)\pi^+. When the finite width effect of the tensor resonances is taken into account, the decay rate of DTPD\to TP is generally enhanced by a factor of 232\sim 3. Except for Ds+f2(1270)π+D_s^+\to f_2(1270)\pi^+, the predicted branching ratios of DTPD\to TP decays are in general too small by one to two orders of magnitude compared to experiment. However, it is very unlikely that the DTD\to T transition form factors can be enhanced by a factor of 353\sim 5 within the ISGW quark model to account for the discrepancy between theory and experiment. As many of the current data are still preliminary and lack sufficient statistic significance, more accurate measurements are needed to pin down the issue.Comment: 11 page

Eclipsing Binaries with Possible Light-Time Effect

The period changes of six eclipsing binaries have been studied with focus on the light-time effect. With the least squares method we also calculated parameters of such an effect and properties of the unresolved body in these systems. With these results we discussed the probability of presence of such bodies in the systems with respect to possible confirmation by another method. In two systems we also suggested the hypothesis of fourth body or magnetic activity for explanation of the "second-order variability" after subtraction of the light-time effect of the third body.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, 2 tables, conference proceeding

Targeting lentiviral vectors to antigen-specific immunoglobulins

Gene transfer into B cells by lentivectors can provide an alternative approach to managing B lymphocyte malignancies and autoreactive B cell-mediated autoimmune diseases. These pathogenic B cell Populations can be distinguished by their surface expression of monospecific immunoglobulin. Development of a novel vector system to deliver genes to these specific B cells could improve the safety and efficacy of gene therapy. We have developed an efficient rnethod to target lentivectors to monospecific immunoglobulin-expressing cells in vitro and hi vivo. We were able to incorporate a model antigen CD20 and a fusogenic protein derived from the Sindbis virus as two distinct molecules into the lentiviral Surface. This engineered vector could specifically bind to cells expressing Surface immunoglobulin recognizing CD20 (αCD20), resulting in efficient transduction of target cells in a cognate antigen-dependent manner in vitro, and in vivo in a xenografted tumor model. Tumor suppression was observed in vivo, using the engineered lentivector to deliver a suicide gene to a xenografted tumor expressing αCD20. These results show the feasibility of engineering lentivectors to target immunoglobulin-specific cells to deliver a therapeutic effect. Such targeting lentivectors also Could potentially be used to genetically mark antigen-specific B cells in vivo to study their B cell biology

Cooperative spontaneous emission in nonuniform media

The subject of this paper is modification of cooperative spontaneous emission by a nonuniform medium, with nonuniform distributions of electromagnetic field. A brief analyzis is presented and it is postulated, that if spontaneous emission from an atom is strongly suppressed, cooperative emission with another atom may be a preferred emission channel and counteract the suppression.Comment: The final publication is available at http://www.epj.or

Nonresonant Three-body Decays of D and B Mesons

Nonresonant three-body decays of D and B mesons are studied. It is pointed out that if heavy meson chiral perturbation theory (HMChPT) is applied to the heavy-light strong and weak vertices and assumed to be valid over the whole kinematic region, then the predicted decay rates for nonresonant charmless 3-body B decays will be too large and especially B^- --> pi^- K^+ K^- greatly exceeds the current experimental limit. This can be understood as chiral symmetry has been applied there twice beyond its region of validity. If HMChPT is applied only to the strong vertex and the weak transition is accounted for by the form factors, the dominant B^* pole contribution to the tree-dominated direct three-body B decays will become small and the branching ratio will be of order 10^{-6}. The decay modes B^- --> (K^- h^+ h^-)_{NR} and bar{B}^0 --> (bar{K}^0 h^+h^-)_{NR} for h = pi, K are penguin dominated. We apply HMChPT in two different cases to study the direct 3-body D decays and compare the results with experiment. Theoretical uncertainties are discussed.Comment: 24 pages, 2 figures. Comments on the Quark Content of the Scalar Meson f0(1370)f_0(1370)

Based on the measurements of (Ds+,D+)f0(1370)π+(D_s^+,D^+)\to f_0(1370)\pi^+ we determine, in a model independent way, the allowed ssˉs\bar s content in the scalar meson f0(1370)f_0(1370). We find that, on the one hand, if this isoscalar resonance is a pure nnˉn\bar n state [ nnˉ(uuˉ+ddˉ)/2]n\bar n\equiv(u\bar u+d\bar d)/\sqrt{2} ], a very large WW-annihilation term will be needed to accommodate Ds+f0(1370)π+D_s^+\to f_0(1370)\pi^+. On the other hand, the ssˉs\bar s component of f0(1370)f_0(1370) should be small enough to avoid excessive Ds+f0(1370)π+D_s^+\to f_0(1370)\pi^+ induced from the external WW-emission. Measurement of f0(1370)f_0(1370) production in the decay Ds+K+Kπ+D_s^+\to K^+K^-\pi^+ will be useful to test the above picture. For the decay D0f0(1370)Kˉ0D^0\to f_0(1370)\bar K^0 which is kinematically barely or even not allowed, depending on the mass of f0(1370)f_0(1370), we find that the finite width effect of f0(1370)f_0(1370) plays a crucial role on the resonant three-body decay D0f0(1370)Kˉ0π+πKˉ0D^0\to f_0(1370)\bar K^0\to\pi^+\pi^-\bar K^0.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figure

Interference between the halves of a double-well trap containing a Bose-Einstein condensate

Interference between the halves of a double-well trap containing a Bose-Einstein condensate is studied. It is found that when the atoms in the two wells are initially in the coherent state, the intensity exhibits collapses and revivals, but it does not for the initial Fock states. Whether the initial states are in the coherent states or in a Fock states, the fidelity time has nothing to do with collision. We point out that interference and its fidelity can be adjusted experimentally by properly preparing the number and initial states of the system.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, accepted by Phy. rev.
