In these lecture notes I describe the theory of QCD and its application, through perturbation theory, at particle colliders.Comment: 58 pages, contribution to the Proceedings of the 2014 European School of High-Energy Physics. Garderen, the Netherlands, 18 June - 1 July 201

Radiative corrections to eÎłe \gamma scattering

We investigate the effects of photon radiation on deep-inelastic \re\gamma scattering. Depending on the set of variables chosen, we find appreciable effects in the kinematic region accessible at LEP2. Convenient analytic results for O(α)O(\alpha) corrected differential cross sections are presented.Comment: 9 pages, latex + 1 postscript figure, all uuencode

Charm Production in Deep-Inelastic eÎłe\gamma Scattering To Next-To-Leading Order in QCD

We discuss the calculation of F2Îł(charm)F_2^{\gamma}({\rm charm}) to next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD, including contributions from both hadronlike and pointlike photons. We show that the former dominates strongly below x≃0.01x\simeq 0.01, and the latter above this value. This fact makes F2Îł(charm)F_2^{\gamma}({\rm charm}) for x≄0.01x \geq 0.01 calculable, whereas for x≀0.01x \leq 0.01 it serves to constrain the small-xx gluon density in the photon. Both ranges in xx are accessible at LEP2. Theoretical uncertainties are well under control. We present rates for single-tag events for the process for e+e−→e+e−cXe^+e^- \rightarrow e^+e^- c X for LEP2. Although these event rates are small, we believe a measurement of F2Îł(charm)F_2^{\gamma}({\rm charm}) is feasible.Comment: 7 pages Latex, with 2 eps figs., uuencode

Model-independent QED corrections to photon structure-function measurements

We present the first calculation of QED radiative corrections to deep-inelastic electron-photon scattering in terms of those variables that are reconstructed in measurements of the photon structure function in electron-positron collisions. In order to cover the low-Q2Q^2 region, we do not invoke the QCD-improved parton model but rather express our results in terms of the photon structure functions. Both analytical and numerical results are given.Comment: Latex, 8 pages, 3 figures, uses epsfig.sty, 12pt.st

W Plus Heavy Quark Production at the Tevatron

We summarize the motivations for and the status of the calculation of the W+W + heavy quark production process in ppˉp \bar p colliders to Next-to-Leading Order in QCD. This process can be used to constrain the strange quark distribution function at high Q2Q^2 at the Tevatron, and also to study the bottom content of W+1W+1~jet events. In addition, when crossed, the calculation essentially describes the single top quark production process to Next-to-Leading Order in QCD.Comment: Presented by S. Heavy Quark Production in Deep-Inelastic Scattering at HERA

We discuss two topics in the production of heavy quarks in deep-inelastic scattering: the next-to-leading order Monte-Carlo HVQDIS and the next-to-leading logarithmic resummation of soft gluon effects, including estimates of next-to-next-to-leading order corrections therefrom.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, To appear in Proceedings of Monte Carlo Generators for HERA Physics, Hamburg 1998/99 Figures update
