Dynamics of Toroidal Spiral Strings around Five-dimensional Black Holes
We examine the separability of the Nambu-Goto equation for test strings in a
shape of toroidal spiral in a five-dimensional Kerr-AdS black hole. In
particular, for a `{\it Hopf loop}\rq string which is a special class of the
toroidal spiral strings, we show the complete separation of variables occurs in
two cases, Kerr background and Kerr-AdS background with equal angular momenta.
We also obtain the dynamical solution for the Hopf loop around a black hole and

Subacute Development of Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) In Diabetic Patient with Clinical Efficacy of Tocilizumab and Xultophy
The patient is 76-year-old men with previous history of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in 2012, acute myocardial infarct (AMI) in 2015 and dyslipidemia in 2017. He had no health or medical problems of rheumatism and joints. As his social and sports history, he was an excellent long-distance runner with the similar level to Olympian Kenji Kimihara during 14-30 years old. He worked hard from 38 years as city assembly member. In 2019, he continued low carbohydrate diet (LCD) with decreased HbA1c from 9.0% to 6.3% for half year. In autumn 2021, he developed subacute generalized arthralgia and muscle weakness with elevated HbA1c 10.6%. He was diagnosed as polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). For treatment, prednisolone was not effective, and then he was provided Tocilizumab (Actemra). It showed remarkable efficacy for symptom improvement and normalized C-reactive protein (CRP) 8.3 to <0.1 mg/dL, matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) 610 to 79 ng/mL. For glucose control, he was initiated insulin human 4-4-4 to 14-14-14 units, followed by Xultophy 18 to 5 doses with satisfactory glucose variability. HbA1c was remarkably decreased from 10.6% to 6.4 % about 2 months. Various discussion perspective was described, and this article will be hopefully useful for future practice and research
Adiponectin receptor-1 expression is associated with good prognosis in gastric cancer
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Adiponectin is inversely related to BMI, positively correlates with insulin sensitivity, and has anti-atherogenic effects. In recent years, adiponectin has been well studied in the field of oncology. Adiponectin has been shown to have antiproliferative effects on gastric cancer, and adiponectin expression is inversely correlated with clinical staging of the disease. However, no studies have reported the correlation between serum adiponectin and receptor expression with disease progression.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>In this study, we evaluated expression levels of 2 adiponectin receptors--AdipoR1 and AdipoR2--and attempted to correlate their expression with prognosis in gastric cancer patients. AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 expression in gastric cancer cell lines (MKN45, TMK-1, NUGC3, and NUGC4) was evaluated by western blotting analysis, and the antiproliferative potential of adiponectin was examined in vitro. Serum adiponectin levels were evaluated in 100 gastric cancer patients, and the expression of AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 was assessed by immunohistochemical staining.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>MKN45 and NUGC3 expressed higher levels of AdipoR1 compared to NUGC4, even though there was no significance in AdipoR2 expression. The antiproliferative effect of adiponectin was confirmed in MKN45 and NUGC3 at 10 μg/ml. No significant associations were observed between serum adiponectin levels and clinicopathological characteristics, but lymphatic metastasis and peritoneal dissemination were significantly higher in the negative AdipoR1 immunostaining group (24/32, <it>p </it>= 0.013 and 9/32, <it>p </it>= 0.042, respectively) compared to the positive AdipoR1 group (lymphatic metastasis, 33/68; peritoneal dissemination, 8/68). On the other hand, AdipoR2 expression was only associated with histopathological type (<it>p </it>= 0.001). In survival analysis, the AdipoR1 positive staining group had significantly longer survival rates than the negative staining group (<it>p </it>= 0.01). However, multivariate analysis indicated that AdipoR1 was not an independent prognostic factor on patient's survival on gastric cancer.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>In gastric cancer, adiponectin has the possibility to be involved in cell growth suppression via AdipoR1. The presence of AdipoR1 could be a novel anticancer therapeutic target in gastric cancer.</p
Interconnected reversible lab-on-a-chip technology
Interconnected lab-on-a-chip modules with minimal dead volume have been developed resulting in the plug and play concept based upon a reversible bonding process. This paper describes the detail of a chip to chip interconnection method, where devices have been aligned and bonded within 15 min and rapidly disassembled in under 5 min. The transport of fluorescein between the chip modules was used as a model microfluidic system and analysed in order to demonstrate the electrophoretic performance of the device and the interconnected junction. Using this technology, in the future different modules for various applications can be developed and interconnected, depending on the required applications. In addition, this simple but rapid method of chip to chip connection overcomes potential problems associated with integrating incompatible materials on one device. <br/
Integrated optical Bragg-grating-based chemical sensor on a curved input edge waveguide structure.
A novel integrated optical chemical sensor based on a surface-relief Bragg grating in a waveguide with a curved input edge, and coated with a chemically sensitive polysiloxane cladding, is described. The curved edge provides a mechanism within the device fabrication that allows for alignment of the input beam to the grating to achieve Bragg scattering. As proof of principle, a low-parts-in-10(6) toluene-vapor sensor with a fast response time is demonstrated
