Complications of Pulmonary Angiography
Although data are available indicating the complication rates for routine cardiac catheterization, information has been lacking on the morbidity of pulmonary angiography in symptomatic patients. This retrospective study was undertaken to assess the risks of this procedure, by analyzing all cases undergoing pulmonary angiography from June 10, 1964. to December 31, 1967. Only two deaths were considered to be causally related to the pulmonary angiogram, a mortality rate of 1.4%. The overall complication rate was 15%. There was no correlation of the complications with the average age, or the concentration of the Hypaque used. There was a correlation between complications and the mean pulmonary artery pressure, if the pulmonary angiogram was positive. The patients least likely to tolerate the procedure are the patients in whom a definite diagnosis of pulmonary embolism and knowledge of its extent is imperative. Because of this, and because of the difficulty in establishing causal relationship, the relatively high incidence of complications is not considered to be an indictment of this diagnostic procedure
Ionization Potential of the Helium Atom
Ground state ionization potential of the He^4 atom is evaluated to be 5 945
204 221 (42) MHz. Along with lower order contributions, this result includes
all effects of the relative orders alpha^4, alpha^3*m_e/m_alpha and
alpha^5*ln^2(alpha).Comment: 4 page
Relativistic J-matrix method
The relativistic version of the J-matrix method for a scattering problem on
the potential vanishing faster than the Coulomb one is formulated. As in the
non-relativistic case it leads to a finite algebraic eigenvalue problem. The
derived expression for the tangent of phase shift is simply related to the
non-relativistic case formula and gives the latter as a limit case. It is due
to the fact that the used basis set satisfies the ``kinetic balance
condition''.Comment: 21 pages, RevTeX, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Free vibrations of a plate with varying number of supports
This experimental investigation tested the accuracy of an analysis which predicts the natural frequencies of vibration of a plate constrained by an arbitrary number of point supports along the edges, and also determined the number of such supports which approximates an infinite number
Instability of dilute granular flow on rough slope
We study numerically the stability of granular flow on a rough slope in
collisional flow regime in the two-dimension. We examine the density dependence
of the flowing behavior in low density region, and demonstrate that the
particle collisions stabilize the flow above a certain density in the parameter
region where a single particle shows an accelerated behavior. Within this
parameter regime, however, the uniform flow is only metastable and is shown to
be unstable against clustering when the particle density is not high enough.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures, submitted to J. Phys. Soc. Jpn.; Fig. 2 replaced;

Alternative Mathematical Technique to Determine LS Spectral Terms
We presented an alternative computational method for determining the
permitted LS spectral terms arising from electronic configurations. This
method makes the direct calculation of LS terms possible. Using only basic
algebra, we derived our theory from LS-coupling scheme and Pauli exclusion
principle. As an application, we have performed the most complete set of
calculations to date of the spectral terms arising from electronic
configurations, and the representative results were shown. As another
application on deducing LS-coupling rules, for two equivalent electrons, we
deduced the famous Even Rule; for three equivalent electrons, we derived a new
simple rule.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev.
