Magnetoelastic coupling in triangular lattice antiferromagnet CuCrS2

CuCrS2 is a triangular lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet with a rhombohedral crystal structure. We report on neutron and synchrotron powder diffraction results which reveal a monoclinic lattice distortion at the magnetic transition and verify a magnetoelastic coupling. CuCrS2 is therefore an interesting material to study the influence of magnetism on the relief of geometrical frustration.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, 1 tabl

Radial HI Profiles at the Periphery of Galactic Disks: The Role of Ionizing Background Radiation

Observations of neutral hydrogen in spiral galaxies reveal a sharp cutoff in the radial density profile at some distance from the center. Using 22 galaxies with known HI distributions as an example, we discuss the question of whether this effect can be associated exclusively with external ionizing radiation, as is commonly assumed. We show that before the surface density reaches σHI0.5M/pc2\sigma_{\textrm{HI}}\le 0.5 {\cal M}_\odot/{\textrm {pc}}^2(the same for galaxies of different types), it is hard to expect the gas to be fully ionized by background radiation. For two of 13 galaxies with a sharp drop in the HI profile, the "steepening" can actually be caused by ionization. At the same time, for the remaining galaxies, the observed cutoff in the radial HI profile is closer to the center than if it was a consequence of ionization by background radiation and, therefore, it should be caused by other factors.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figure

This paper presents the study results of zooplankton spatial distribution at the thermokarst lake of the Lena river delta (Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)). The species composition of zooplankton revealed 40 species: 25 species of Rotifera type, 8 species of Cladocera suborder and 7 species of Copepoda subclass. The basic complex of the following species is revealed: rotifers Conochilus unicornis (Rousselet, 1892), Kellicotia longispina (Kellicot, 1879), Keratella cochlearis (Gosse, 1851), crustaceous cladocerans: r. Bosmina, copepods: Maranaebiotus brucei (Richard, 1898), Leptodiaptomus angustilobus (Sars, 1898), Eudiaptomus graciloides (Lilljeborg, 1888). The zooplankton number of reservoir was determined by rotifers (69.1% of the total), the average value was 178,2 ± 21,6 thousand individuals/m3. The biomass of zooplankton was represented by major species of copepods (74.4% of the total biomass), the average value is equal to 1184.1 mg/m3. 2 peaks of zooplankton quantitative indicators are revealed. The differences of the spatial distribution of species are represented within the water area of the reservoir: in the polygonal part of the lake, in the littoral and the pelagic thermokarst part of the reservoir. According to the ecological state of the reservoir evaluation this lake is characterized is a clean and oligosaprobic one. In accordance to zoogeographical, ecological and faunal characteristics the zooplankton is presented mainly by cosmopolitan, eurytopic and littoral species

(Anti-)self-dual homogeneous vacuum gluon field as an origin of confinement and SUL(NF)×SUR(NF)SU_L(N_F)\times SU_R(N_F) symmetry breaking in QCD

It is shown that an (anti-)self-dual homogeneous vacuum gluon field appears in a natural way within the problem of calculation of the QCD partition function in the form of Euclidean functional integral with periodic boundary conditions. There is no violation of cluster property within this formulation, nor are parity, color and rotational symmetries broken explicitly. The massless limit of the product of the quark masses and condensates, mfψˉfψfm_f \langle \bar\psi_f \psi_f \rangle, is calculated to all loop orders. This quantity does not vanish and is proportional to the gluon condensate appearing due to the nonzero strength of the vacuum gluon field. We conclude that the gluon condensate can be considered as an order parameter both for confinement and chiral symmetry breaking.Comment: 16 pages, LaTe

Cell Structures in Heterologous Anti-Rabies Immunoglobulin Production

    Get PDF
This paper reviews basic modern trends in obtainment of anti-rabies immunoglobulin with enhanced properties. One of these trends is associated with the substitution of organ-tissue antigen by cultural antigen at the stage of producer immunization. Analyzed are the results of research connected with the use of the cell-cultures grown Rabies virus in production of heterologous anti-rabies immunoglobulin. The study testifies of applicability of the transferred Vero cell culture as a substrate for rabies antigen preparation. In addition to this, specified are the advantages of the rabies cultural antigen usage over the organ-tissue one at the stage of hyper-immune serum production

Biochemical & immunological markers of autoimmune thyroiditis

Correlations between biochemical and immunological markers of programmed cell death (apoptosis), and the functional state of the thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism, euthyroidism, hypothyroidism) have been investigated in autoimmune thyroiditis (AT) (also known as chronic autoimmune thyroiditis). Annexin V, TRAIL and TNF-α, as well as DNA-hydrolyzing antibodies were used as the main markers. Increased levels of TRAIL were found in the serum of AT patients (hyperthyroidism>hypothyroidism>euthyroidism) compared with healthy individuals. The highest frequency of antibodies to denatured DNA (Abs-dDNA) had the highest frequency in AT patients (97%) compared with healthy controls. Among these patients, 75% had hyperthyroidism, 85% had hypothyroidism, and 84.7% had euthyroidism. Abs hydrolyzing activity demonstrated correlation dependence with symptoms of the thyroid dysfunction

Predicted facies, sedimentary structures and potential resources of Jurassic petroleum complex in S-E Western Siberia (based on well logging data)

This paper is devoted to the current problem in petroleum geology and geophysics- prediction of facies sediments for further evaluation of productive layers. Applying the acoustic method and the characterizing sedimentary structure for each coastal-marine-delta type was determined. The summary of sedimentary structure characteristics and reservoir properties (porosity and permeability) of typical facies were described. Logging models SP, EL and GR (configuration, curve range) in interpreting geophysical data for each litho-facies were identified. According to geophysical characteristics these sediments can be classified as coastal-marine-delta. Prediction models for potential Jurassic oil-gas bearing complexes (horizon J[1]{1}) in one S-E Western Siberian deposit were conducted. Comparing forecasting to actual testing data of layer J[1]{1} showed that the prediction is about 85%
