Structure and properties of nanostructured Cobalt processed by high pressure torsion at temperatures of 300 and 77 K
Several nanostructured states of high purity cobalt were achieved by highpressure torsion (HPT) at pressures of 4 and 8 GPa and temperatures of 300 and 77 K.Changes of crystallographic texture, grain sizes and phase transformations as a resultof HPT and subsequent annealing have been measured and analyzed. Mechanicalproperties of nanostructured Co were studied by microhardness measurements at300 K, and uniaxial compression at temperatures 300, 77 and 4.2 K. Comparison ofthe strength characteristics, plasticity and strain hardening of the nanostructured andcoarse grained Co has been carried out. Micromechanisms of plastic deformation of Coduring HPT deformation and uniaxial compression are discussed
Effect of counterpressure during equal-channel angular pressing on nanoporosity formation in ultrafine-grained copper
Results of small-angle X-ray scattering and high-precision density measurements showed that the application of counterpressure during the equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) of ultrafine-grained copper leads to a decrease in nanoporosity and an increase in mechanical properties of the ECAP-processed metal
Observation of the shear failure mode in nanostructured titanium under quasistatic uniaxial compression at 300-4.2 K
Nanostructured Ti (100 -300 nm average grain size), processed by severe plastic deformation through equal channel angular pressing of commercially pure Ti rods after quasi-static compression (at 0.0004 sstrain-rate) of prismatic (227mm) samples has at low temperatures (77 and 4,2K) yield stresses two times larger than the initial CP-Ti, failure stresses ranging from 1.4 to 2.4 GPa. The shear failure phenomenon has been observed at 77 and 4,2K. Nanostructured Ti is absolutely thermomechanically unstable against catastrophic plastic shear under low temperature straining. The catastrophic plastic shear spreads through the whole section of the sample with a velocity close to the transverse sound velocity and has a dynamical character. It is supposed that the micro mechanism of the shear failure of nanostructured Ti consists in extending of the catastrophic shear by grain boundary dislocations
