Relationship Between Anti-DFS70 Autoantibodies and Oxidative Stress

Background: The anti-DFS70 autoantibodies are one of the most commonly and widely described agent of unknown clinical significance, frequently detected in healthy individuals. It is not known whether the DFS70 autoantibodies are protective or pathogenic. One of the factors suspected of inducing the formation of anti-DFS70 antibodies is increased oxidative stress. We evaluated the coexistence of anti-DFS70 antibodies with selected markers of oxidative stress and investigated whether these antibodies could be considered as indirect markers of oxidative stress. Methods: The intensity of oxidative stress was measured in all samples via indices of free-radical damage to lipids and proteins such as total oxidant status (TOS), concentrations of lipid hydroperoxides (LPH), lipofuscin (LPS), and malondialdehyde (MDA). The parameters of the non-enzymatic antioxidant system, such as total antioxidant status (TAS) and uric acid concentration (UA), were also measured, as well as the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD). Based on TOS and TAS values, the oxidative stress index (OSI) was calculated. All samples were also tested with indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) and 357 samples were selected for direct monospecific anti DFS70 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) testing. Results: The anti-DFS70 antibodies were confirmed by ELISA test in 21.29% of samples. Compared with anti-DFS70 negative samples we observed 23% lower concentration of LPH (P =.038) and 11% lower concentration of UA (P =.005). TOS was 20% lower (P =.014). The activity of SOD was up to 5% higher (P =.037). The Pearson correlation showed weak negative correlation for LPH, UA, and TOS and a weak positive correlation for SOD activity. Conclusion: In samples positive for the anti-DFS70 antibody a decreased level of oxidative stress was observed, especially in the case of samples with a high antibody titer. Anti-DFS70 antibodies can be considered as an indirect marker of reduced oxidative stress or a marker indicating the recent intensification of antioxidant processes

Positron Annihilation in Pd-Ag-H and Pd-Au-H Systems

Positron annihilation method was used to study hydrogenated Pd1y\text{}_{1-y}Agy\text{}_{y}, and Pd1y\text{}_{1-y}Agy\text{}_{y} alloys in α-phase. In both systems, insensitivity of the low-lying core states to the presence of hydrogen in the alloy was found. Rigid band mode1 appeared to be a useless description of the changes in the band occupation after hydrogen absorption. The results seem to indicate that the "capacity" of the low-lying H-Pd bonding states remains constant when the Ag or Au atoms are added to PdH0.6\text{}_{≈0.6}, which can explain the existence of the limit to the summed up hydrogen and Ag(Au) concentration.Zatwi

Report and recommendations on multimedia materials for teaching and learning quantum physics

An international collaboration of physicists, affiliated with Multimedia Physics for Teaching and Learning (MPTL) and MERLOT, performed a survey and review of multimedia-based learning materials for quantum physics and quantum mechanics. The review process was based on more than a decade of experience with similar topical learning material reviews. A total of approximately 250 items were considered for review and eight were recommended by the reviewers. These are described in this report. Observations about quantum learning resources and multimedia tools are included.Postprin

Positron Annihilation with Core Electrons in 3d-Transition Metals

    No full text
Recently we have been able to resolve the rare gas core contribution in long-slit angular correlation of annihilation radiation curves for some d-metals when applying a new model to fit the experimental data. In the present paper the model is applied to angular correlation of annihilation radiation spectra for the whole series of the 3d-transition metals from Sc to Cu. The model corresponds to recent theoretical predictions for the metals from the second half of the series and allows one to find the contribution of the core electrons to the whole annihilation process for these metals. Probably a different description of the angular correlation of annihilation radiation data for the metals from the beginning of the 3d-series should be searched

The paper presents the importance of measurements and research in the road traffic as well as the most often used methods of speed measuring. Possibilities of GPS system use for speed measurements are described. Possibilities created by this method usage to determine the speed in the road traffic are shown

Does the Dielectric-Dielectric Interface Affect the Positron Diffusion Current?

The angular correlations of annihilation radiation have been measured for NaI, NaF and (NaI)0.65\text{}_{0.65}(NaF)0.35\text{}_{0.35} alloy. The angular correlations of annihilation radiation for the alloy appeared to be more similar to the one for NaI than it should be expected from the content of NaI in the alloy. The result can be easily explained by assuming that NaI/NaF interface acts directionally on positron diffusion movement

Prices for transport services in urban public transport are an element of transport policy and are subject to regulations. The price list for public transport trips results from the Act on public transport and is determined by the territorial self-government. The article analyzes the tariff systems introduced by the authorities of selected cities. These cities are: Radom, Czestochowa, Kielce and Bydgoszcz
