    The viruses of both the Eastern and and Western strains of equine encephalomyelitis have definitely been proven to be pathogenic to animals other than horses. White mice, guinea pigs, pigeons, white rats, rabbits, monkeys, sheep, goats, ducks, dogs, pigs, cats, hens and the European hedgehog have all been infected with Eastern strain, whereas Western strain virus failed to infect sheep, pigs, dogs, cats, and the European hedgehog, but it did produce the disease in the other animals mentioned. The infection was artificially started by means of intracerebral inoculation of infected brain tissue. Both strains have been found to produce encephalitis in man through natural infection

    A microfluidic chip based model for the study of full thickness human intestinal tissue using dual flow

The study of inflammatory bowel disease, including Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease, has relied largely upon the use of animal or cell culture models; neither of which can represent all aspects of the human pathophysiology. Presented herein is a dual flow microfluidic device which holds full thickness human intestinal tissue in a known orientation. The luminal and serosal sides are independently perfused ex vivo with nutrients with simultaneous waste removal for up to 72 h. The microfluidic device maintains the viability and integrity of the tissue as demonstrated through Haematoxylin & Eosin staining, immunohistochemistry and release of lactate dehydrogenase. In addition, the inflammatory state remains in the tissue after perfusion on the device as determined by measuring calprotectin levels. It is anticipated that this human model will be extremely useful for studying the biology and tes ting novel interventions in diseased tissue

    "The Energy Cost Containment Through Energy Efficiency" in Texas State-owned buildings project was begun in the spring of 1984 as a part of a multipronged effort to reduce rising energy costs in State operations. Energy audits of 21 million square feet (22% of total conditioned space) were conducted by three energy engineering firms and Texas Engineering Extension Service personnel under contract to the Public Utility Commission of Texas. Retrofits totaling 15.6millionwithannualsavingsof15.6 million with annual savings of 9.2 million were identified (59% ROI). This paper will detail the objectives of the project, summarize audit results, and outline financing options for individual projects
