    Weak Magnetic Order in the Bilayered-hydrate Nax_{x}CoO2y_{2}\cdot yH2_{2}O Structure Probed by Co Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance - Proposed Phase Diagram in Superconducting Nax_xCoO2_{2} \cdot yyH2_2O

    A weak magnetic order was found in a non-superconducting bilayered-hydrate Nax_{x}CoO2y_{2}\cdot yH2_{2}O sample by a Co Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) measurement. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by temperature 1/T1T1/T_1T shows a prominent peak at 5.5 K, below which a Co-NQR peak splits due to an internal field at the Co site. From analyses of the Co NQR spectrum at 1.5 K, the internal field is evaluated to be \sim 300 Oe and is in the abab-plane. The magnitude of the internal field suggests that the ordered moment is as small as 0.015\sim 0.015 μB\mu_B using the hyperfine coupling constant reported previously. It is shown that the NQR frequency νQ\nu_Q correlates with magnetic fluctuations from measurements of NQR spectra and 1/T1T1/T_1T in various samples. The higher-νQ\nu_Q sample has the stronger magnetic fluctuations. A possible phase diagram in Nax_{x}CoO2y_{2}\cdot yH2_{2}O is depicted using TcT_c and νQ\nu_Q, in which the crystal distortion along the c-axis of the tilted CoO2_2 octahedron is considered to be a physical parameter. Superconductivity with the highest TcT_c is seemingly observed in the vicinity of the magnetic phase, suggesting strongly that the magnetic fluctuations play an important role for the occurrence of the superconductivity.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, submitted to J.     Human μ-calpain: Simple isolation from erythrocytes and characterization of autolysis fragments

    Heterodimeric μ-calpain, consisting of the large (80 kDa) and the small (30 kDa) subunit, was isolated and purified from human erythrocytes by a highly reproducible four-step purification procedure. Obtained material is more than 95% pure and has a specific activity of 6 - 7 mU/mg. Presence of contaminating proteins could not be detected by HPLC and sequence analysis. During storage at -80 °C the enzyme remains fully activatable by Ca²⁺, although the small subunit is partially processed to a 22 kDa fragment. This novel autolysis product of the small subunit starts with the sequence (60)RILG and is further processed to the known 18 kDa fragment. Active forms and typical transient and stable autolysis products of the large subunit were identified by protein sequencing. In casein-zymograms only the activatable forms 80 kDa+30 kDa, 80 kDa+22 kDa and 80 kDa+18 kDa displayed caseinolysis

    Multi-site breathers in Klein-Gordon lattices: stability, resonances, and bifurcations

    We prove the most general theorem about spectral stability of multi-site breathers in the discrete Klein-Gordon equation with a small coupling constant. In the anti-continuum limit, multi-site breathers represent excited oscillations at different sites of the lattice separated by a number of "holes" (sites at rest). The theorem describes how the stability or instability of a multi-site breather depends on the phase difference and distance between the excited oscillators. Previously, only multi-site breathers with adjacent excited sites were considered within the first-order perturbation theory. We show that the stability of multi-site breathers with one-site holes change for large-amplitude oscillations in soft nonlinear potentials. We also discover and study a symmetry-breaking (pitchfork) bifurcation of one-site and multi-site breathers in soft quartic potentials near the points of 1:3 resonance.Comment: 34 pages, 12 figure

    Magnetization under High Pressure in MnSi

    The magnetization M(H) has been measured in the weakly helimagnetic itinerant compound MnSi under high pressure up to 10.2 kbar and high magnetic field up to 9 Tesla. We interpret the simultaneous decrease under pressure of the saturated magnetization, psp_s, and the Curie temperature, % T_c in the frame of the self-consistent renormalization theory (SCR) of spin fluctuations. From the analysis of the so-called Arrot-plot (H/p[H,T]H/p [ H,T ] versus p2[H,T]p^2[ H,T ] ) and the respective volume dependence of psp_s and TcT_c, we estimate the evolution of the characteristic spin fluctuation temperatures, T0T_0 and TAT_A when the system approaches its critical pressure, PcP_c=15 kbar, corresponding to the disappearance of the long range magnetic order at T=0.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures.
