Investigates production characteristics, forage quality and animal production potential of some selected Kenyan sweet potato accessions for inclusion into crop/livestock production systems. Presents and discusses results of experiments on fibrous root development and tuber development and vine quality. Includes data on chemical composition of vines after 210 days from planting and chemical composition and in vitro dry matter digestibility of rations. Examines the effect of vines and cottnseed cake supplementation on DM intake and calf growth rates

African forage plant genetic resources, evaluation of forage germplasm and extensive livestock production systems. Proceedings of the third PANESA workshop

This proceeding report is divided in three sessions. In the first session papers on African forage plant genetic resources in Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi and the PANESA region are presented. The Pasture Network for Eastern and Southern Africa (PANESA): Its regional collaborative research programme

The Pastures Network for Eastern and Southern Africa (PANESA) deals with forage and other feed resource development in sub-Saharan Africa. Emphasis is placed on forage germplasm evaluation and seeking entry-points of forage resources into mixed crop-livestock smallholder farmer production systems. Operational focus is on the arid/semi-arid, humid/sub-humid and highlands zones of eastern and southern Africa. The net-works mandate seek to improve the research capabilities of national institutions so as to alleviate dry season feed resources shortages. The rationale for the network's formation, country membership, mode of operation and coverage of its collaborative research programme are discussed
