Thomas Henry Huxley et la Bible

    No full text
Thomas Henry Huxley devoted several essays to the study of the Bible. This interest can only be accounted for if his ideas on history, religion as well as epistemology are examined. According to him, a struggle between free thought and supernaturalism was culminating during the Victorian era, hence the need for a “New Reformation” which was heir to the ideals of freedom defended by the humanists of the Renaissance. This movement opposed the principles of the supporters of what he called “ecclesiasticism”. The advocates of the “New Reformation” could rely on the progress of modern science, and agnosticism, which Huxley identified with scientific method, became its epistemological foundation. As a result, Huxley thought that the authority of physical science was in conflict with the infallibility of the Scriptures and with the theological arguments which rested on it, and this notably led him to the conclusion that the biblical narrative of the Flood was unhistorical. The naturalisation of the Scriptures seems then logically to follow his philosophical views based on the limits of human knowledge. It appears that it was the question of authority which underlay Huxley’s interest in the Bible. He thought that the authority of the Scriptures must be replaced by that of science

Introduction :An ADR is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as: ‘a response to a drug which is noxious and unintended, and which occurs at doses normally used in man for the prophylaxis, diagnosis, or therapy of disease, or for the modification of physiological function’.1 Each year, millions of patients experience ADRs, especially with the increased use of medicinal drugs. ADRs take the place as the fourth to sixth major cause of death, eclipsing pulmonary disease, diabetes, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and pneumonia. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ADRs are responsible for almost 1,300,000 emergency department visits annually.Method: A spontaneous reporting technique was followed. Patients were selected in the medical ward. We attended ward rounds and encouraged the doctors to report suspected (ADEs) as well as nurses, pharmacist, patient and their care taker. All the in-patients who assessed for ADR’s during the study period are check their past medication history. Patient was selected from general medicine department according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria of WHO. Result And Discussion: During the study period total 6930 patients case sheets were reviewed among them 540 (07.79%) patients have experienced at least one adverse drug reaction (ADR). Out of 540 patients are divided into two groups 212 (39.25%) experienced 265 ADRs and admitted in hospital. In the age group 31-40 maximum ADRs was found. It also have seen male patient of all age group have more ADRs, and most ADRs. Study also soonest1 ADRs, Conclusion: The study show that ADRs Are the main cause of increase of medication cost which may be reduced by establishing of proper ADRs monitor center and establishing ADRs information center and their collaboration with other agencies

Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) may occur following a single dose or prolonged administration of a drug or may result from the combination of two or more drugs. The meaning of this term differs from the term "side effect" because side effects can be beneficial as well as detrimental. The study of ADRs is also known as pharmacovigilance. During this study ADRs assessed according to World Health Organization (WHO)–Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) causality assessment criteria, Naranjo scale, Karch and lasagna scale, the result indicate symptoms of ADRs in male patient of adults and geriatrics common and it may be due to combination drug therapy. When ADRs assessed by using WHO Possible scale & Naranjo’s probability scale it was found that only 05.13% have certain ADRs which required treatment while possible ADRs are between 39.84 to 55.68% also required strict monitoring. The main aim of this study was to find out the cause of ADRs and their assessment during hospital stay and developing a monitoring system and actively electronic submission of identified ADRs as per WHO ADRs monitoring system to prevent risk of ADRs
