    Application of robust and inverse optimization in transportation

We assume that users choose the route selfishly and the flow will eventually reach an equilibrium state (User Equilibrium). The first part of the thesis demonstrates how inverse and robust optimization can be used to find the actual travel times given a stable flow on the network and some noisy information on travel times from different users. We model the users' perception of travel times using three different sets and solve the robust inverse problem for all of them. We also extend the idea to find parametric functional forms for travel times given historical data. Our numerical results illustrate the significant improvement obtained by our models over a simple fitting model. The second part of the thesis considers the network design problem under demand uncertainty. We show that for affine travel time functions, the deterministic problem can be formulated as a mixed integer programming problem with quadratic objective and linear constraints. For the robust network design problem, we propose a decomposition scheme: breaking a tri-level programming problem into two smaller problems and re-iterating until a good solution is obtained. To deal with the expensive computation required by large networks, we also propose a heuristic robust simulated annealing approach.     Dynamic Texture Map Based Artifact Reduction For Compressed Videos

    This paper proposes a method of artifact reduction in compressed videos using dynamic texture map together with artifact maps and 3D - fuzzy filters. To preserve better details during filtering process, the authors introduce a novel method to construct a texture map for video sequences called dynamic texture map. Then, temporal arifacts such as flicker artifacts and mosquito artifacts are also estimated by advanced flicker maps and mosquito maps. These maps combined with fuzzy filters are applied to intraframe and interframe pixels to enhancecompressed videos. Simulation results verify the advanced performance of the proposed fuzzy filtering scheme in term of visual quality, SSIM, PSNR and flicker metrics in comparisionwith existing state of the art methods

    An Analysis of Shoreline Changes Using Combined Multitemporal Remote Sensing and Digital Evaluation Model

    Cua Dai estuary belonged to Quang Nam province is considered to be one of the localities of Vietnam having a complex erosion and accretion process. In this area, sandbars are recently observed with lots of arguments about the causes and regimes of formation. This could very likely result of not reliable source of information on shoreline evolution and a lack of historical monitoring data. Accurately identification of shoreline positions over a given period of time is a key to quantitatively and accurately assessing the beach erosion and accretion. The study is therefore to propose an innovative method of accurately shoreline positions for an analysis of coastal erosion and accretion in the Cua Dai estuary. The proposed technology of multitemporal remote sensing and digital evaluation model with tidal correction are used to analyse the changes in shoreline and estimate the rate of erosion and accretion. An empirical formula is, especially, exposed to fully interpret the shoreline evolution for multiple scales based on a limitation of satellite images during 1965 to 2018. The results show that there is a significant difference of shoreline shift between corrections and non-corrections of tidal. Erosion process tends to be recorded in the Cua Dai cape located in the Cua Dai ward, especially in the An Luong cape located in the Duy Hai commune with the length of 1050 m. Furthermore, it is observed that there is much stronger erosion in the north side compared with south side of Cua Dai estuary

    Level of Factors impact on the Buyers’ Intention in Buying Private Health Insurance with the Case of Vietnam Non-Life Insurance Companies

    The study aims to determine the influence of factors affecting the intention to purchase private health insurance at non-life insurance companies in Vietnam. The samples were surveyed from 500 people from many areas but mostly in Hanoi. The study identified and clarified 5 independent factors affecting the intention to buy private health insurance at non-life health insurance companies in Vietnam. The analysis results show 5 variables: "Past experience", "Perception of service quality of insurance companies", "Perceived behavioral control", "Attitude towards risks and private health insurance ", and the variable "Subjective norms on private health insurance" affect people's intention to buy private health insurance. Several policies have been proposed to increase customers' intention to buy private health insurance at non-life insurance companies from the analysis. To raise customer's intention to purchase private health insurance, the research team recommends non-life insurance company to improve service quality, especially after-sales service, the quality and expertise of staff, and the government to complete policies and legal framework on private health insurance. Moreover, the research team also recommend to renovate the quality of organizing the private health insurance regime and form the basis of the entire population pathology record.     Studying the thermo-gas-dynamic process in a muzzle brake compensator

    To reduce the recoil and improve the stability of small arms, a muzzle brake compensator is attached to the muzzle of the barrel. This device uses the kinetic energy of the powder gas escaping from the bore after the bullet is fired. In this paper, the authors present the determination of the thermo-gas-dynamic model of the operation of a muzzle brake compensator and an example of calculating this type of muzzle device for the AK assault rifle using 7.62x39 mm ammunition. The results of the calculation allowed for obtaining the parameters of the powder gas flow in the process of flowing out of the muzzle device, as well as the change in the momentum of the powder gas's impact on the muzzle device. The model proposed in the article provides the basis for a quantitative evaluation of the effectiveness of using the muzzle device in stabilizing infantry weapons when firing

    Super cavity model with the coupling reaction of slender body motion and water flow

     On the imperfect water entry, a high-speed slender body moving in the forward direction, rotates inside the cavity. The body's motion makes super cavity phenomena in the water flow. The water velocity and pressure fields interact during the body's motion. In this paper, the coupling simulation model is a combination of two sub-models: In the first sub-model, the motion of slender body running very fast underwater is simulated. The equation system of this sub-model is solved by Runge-Kutta method; In the second sub-model, the water flow and pressure field under reaction of very fast slender body motion are simulated by CFD model. The simulation results of this coupled model are compared with experiments based on magnitudes of velocity U by x0 direction and error percents for cavity diameter and length
