Bryophytes of Uganda : 3., Phyllodon truncatulus (MĂŒll. Hal.) Buck is replaced in Africa by Phyllodon truncatus (Welw. & Duby) Buck (Hypnaceae, Bryopsida)

All specimens in BM labelled Phyllodon truncatus or P. truncatulus have been examined, together with two new Uganda collections, and all African species conform to the type of P. truncatus, and all American species conform to the type of P. truncatulus. Buck’s (1987) assessment of this genus is supported, and it is confirmed that P. truncatulus does not occur in Africa

The paper reviews the results of detailed revision of herbarium material of the genus Piptatherum from Poaceae collection kept in the Herbarium of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SARA). Revision of the genus Piptatherum P. Beauv. in Bosnia and Herzegovina is presented, with brief nomenclature citations and the key for identification. The original photographs and distributional map, accompany the synopsis for each taxon: Piptatherum holciforme (M. Bieb.) Roem. & Schult. subsp. holciforme, P. miliaceum (L.) Coss. subsp. miliaceum, P. miliaceum subsp. thomasii (Duby) Freitag and P. virescens (Trin.) Roem. & Schult. subsp. holciforme, P. miliaceum (L.) Coss. subsp. miliaceum, P. miliaceum subsp. thomasii (Duby) Freitag i P. virescens (Trin.) Boiss

The taxonomic status of Bryum arachnoideum C. MĂŒll. and B. lanatum (P. Beauv.) Brid.

A study of an isotype of Bryum arachnoideum C. MĂŒll., a poorly understood species described from tropical Africa, revealed that this species is distinct from B. argenteum Hedw. var. lanatum (P. Beauv.) Hampe. The differences between both species are listed. All specimens from tropical Africa named as B. arachnoideum by the author must be attributed to B. argenteum var. lanatum. The differences between B. argenteum var. argenteum and var. lanatum, both morphologically and ecologically, are so important that it is proposed to treat var. lanatum on a species level as B. lanatum (P. Beauv.) Brid

Taxonomic results of the Bryotrop expedition to Zaire and Rwanda : 26., a new checklist of the mosses of Central Africa

Central Africa was one of the first regions in the tropics, if not the first, for which a checklist of mosses was compiled. In 1940, Demaret published the "Prodrome des Bryophytes du Congo Belge et du Ruanda-Urundi", followed by a supplement in 1946. In the 50 years since that time, numerous new contributions to the bryophyte flora of Central Africa have been made. Demaret added seven more publications on Zaire (formerly Belgian Congo). Potier de la Varde studied the bryophyte collections made during the surveys of the flora of the Central African volcanoes by Hedberg
