Analytical considerations of flow boiling heat transfer in metal-foam filled tubes
Flow boiling in metal-foam filled tube was analytically investigated based on a modified microstructure model, an original boiling heat transfer model and fin analysis for metal foams. Microstructure model of metal foams was established, by which fiber diameter and surface area density were precisely predicted. The heat transfer model for flow boiling in metal foams was based on annular pattern, in which two phase fluid was composed by vapor region in the center of the tube and liquid region near the wall. However, it was assumed that nucleate boiling performed only in the liquid region. Fin analysis and heat transfer network for metal foams were integrated to obtain the convective heat transfer coefficient at interface. The analytical solution was verified by its good agreement with experimental data. The parametric study on heat transfer coefficient and boiling mechanism was also carried out.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio
Effect of the flow leading slats obliquity on the thermal performance of air-cooled condensers in a power plant
Paper presented at the 8th International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Mauritius, 11-13 July, 2011.Ambient winds may bring on poor fan performance and
deteriorated heat rejection of the air-cooled condensers in a
power plant. The disadvantageous wind impacts can be
weakened thanks to the flow field leading of the wind. By
introducing a radiator model to the fin-tube bundles, the airside
fluid and heat flow in air-cooled condensers with a flow
guiding device in a representative 2 × 600MW direct dry
cooling power plant are modeled and calculated. The flow rate
and heat rejection of the individual condenser cells and the aircooled
condensers with flow guiding devices at different slat
obliquities are obtained and compared. The results show that
the flow rate and heat rejection of the air-cooled condensers
both increase owing to the setup of the flow guiding device.
The low flow guiding slats obliquity is superior to the high one
for the thermo-flow performances. For the upwind condenser
cells, the flow and heat transfer rates vary widely due to the
flow field leading of the ambient winds by the flow guiding
device especially at the lowered obliquity. It can be of use for
the optimal design and operation of air-cooled condensers in a
power plant.mp201
Hepatitis B virus subgenotype C2 is the most prevalent subgenotype in northeast China
AbstractThe geographical distribution of hepatitis B virus (HBV) subgenotypes and their clinical implications in patients with acute and chronic hepatitis B in the Heilung-kiang province of northeast China were investigated. Nested PCR and multiplex PCR were performed with genotype-specific primers and with subgenotype-specific primers to identify genotypes and subgenotypes from serum samples of 412 HBV infections including 69 with acute self-limited hepatitis (ASH) and 343 with chronic hepatitis (CH). A total of 361 samples were genotyped and 304 were further subgenotyped. The most common HBV genotype was C (93.63%, 338/361), with subgenotype group C2 (83.73%, 283/338) predominating. Genotype B was also found and subgenotype B2 predominated within this genotype. Out of 69 infected patients with ASH, 48 were identified as genotype C and all belonged to subgenotype C2. Of 343 infected patients with CH, 313 were genotyped and 256 were subgenotyped; amongst these, C2 (91.80%, 235/256), B2 (7.42%, 19/256) and mixed subgenotypes B2 and C2 (0.78%, 2/256) were found. In HBV subgenotype C2 infections, ASH had a higher ratio of women than CH patients. These results show that HBV subgenotypes C2 and B2 were found in Heilung-kiang province of northeast China. In ASH and CH groups, the distributions of subgenotypes were coincident with C2, the predominant subgenotype. Analysis of the association between subgenotype and the outcomes of HBV infection was inconclusive in our study
New insulating phases of two-dimensional electrons in high Landau levels: observation of sharp thresholds to conduction
The intriguing re-entrant integer quantized Hall states recently discovered
in high Landau levels of high-mobility 2D electron systems are found to exhibit
extremely non-linear transport. At small currents these states reflect
insulating behavior of the electrons in the uppermost Landau level. At larger
currents, however, a discontinuous and hysteretic transition to a conducting
state is observed. These phenomena, found only in very narrow magnetic field
ranges, are suggestive of the depinning of a charge density wave state, but
other explanations can also be constructed.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Observation of Two New N* Peaks in J/psi -> and Decays
The system in decays of is limited to be
isospin 1/2 by isospin conservation. This provides a big advantage in studying
compared with and experiments which mix
isospin 1/2 and 3/2 for the system. Using 58 million decays
collected with the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, more than 100 thousand
events are obtained. Besides two well known
peaks at 1500 MeV and 1670 MeV, there are two new, clear peaks in
the invariant mass spectrum around 1360 MeV and 2030 MeV. They are the
first direct observation of the peak and a long-sought "missing"
peak above 2 GeV in the invariant mass spectrum. A simple
Breit-Wigner fit gives the mass and width for the peak as MeV and MeV, and for the new peak above 2 GeV
as MeV and MeV, respectively
Search for Invisible Decays of and in and
Using a data sample of decays collected with the BES
II detector at the BEPC, searches for invisible decays of and
in to and are performed.
The signals, which are reconstructed in final states, are used
to tag the and decays. No signals are found for the
invisible decays of either or , and upper limits at the 90%
confidence level are determined to be for the ratio
and for . These are the first
searches for and decays into invisible final states.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures; Added references, Corrected typo
Competition between quantum-liquid and electron-solid phases in intermediate Landau levels
On the basis of energy calculations we investigate the competition between
quantum-liquid and electron-solid phases in the Landau levels n=1,2, and 3 as a
function of their partial filling factor. Whereas the quantum-liquid phases are
stable only in the vicinity of quantized values 1/(2s+1) of the partial filling
factor, an electron solid in the form of a triangular lattice of clusters with
a few number of electrons (bubble phase) is energetically favorable between
these fillings. This alternation of electron-solid phases, which are insulating
because they are pinned by the residual impurities in the sample, and quantum
liquids displaying the fractional quantum Hall effect explains a recently
observed reentrance of the integral quantum Hall effect in the Landau levels
n=1 and 2. Around half-filling of the last Landau level, a uni-directional
charge density wave (stripe phase) has a lower energy than the bubble phase.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures; calculation of exact exchange potential for

Distributed phase-covariant cloning with atomic ensembles via quantum Zeno dynamics
We propose an interesting scheme for distributed orbital state quantum
cloning with atomic ensembles based on the quantum Zeno dynamics. These atomic
ensembles which consist of identical three-level atoms are trapped in distant
cavities connected by a single-mode integrated optical star coupler. These
qubits can be manipulated through appropriate modulation of the coupling
constants between atomic ensemble and classical field, and the cavity decay can
be largely suppressed as the number of atoms in the ensemble qubits increases.
The fidelity of each cloned qubit can be obtained with analytic result. The
present scheme provides a new way to construct the quantum communication
network.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Measurements of the observed cross sections for exclusive light hadrons containing at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV
By analyzing the data sets of 17.3, 6.5 and 1.0 pb taken,
respectively, at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV with the BES-II
detector at the BEPC collider, we measure the observed cross sections for

cross sections and the branching fractions for decay into these
final states at 90% C.L..Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
