Prognostic trend model of passenger transport performance of the Croatian maritime traffic system

    Get PDF
This research analyses the dynamics and the modelling trend of the development of passenger transport performance of the Croatian maritime traffic system. Passenger transport performance represents a transport value which is, regarding its characteristic, a qualitative transport demand indicator in public passenger traffic, and expressed by the realized passenger transport operation in public maritime passenger traffic. Adequate mathematical statistic analysis of passenger transport performance has been performed at the level of maritime traffic system, forming in turn a mathematical prognostic trend model of the development dynamics of this traffic value. The prognostic trend model of the passenger transport performance is presented by a respective equation, with the calculation of the related determination coefficient as a measure of quality which determines the level of statistical significance of the description of the given data using the model equation. The law of development of the studied transport value during the considered time period is described by the computer calculated obtained model equation. During research, the scientific methods of mathematical statistics, modelling methods, and computer software Ā«Microsoft ExcelĀ» have been used

Iako su grad Bjelovar i Bjelovarsko-bilogorska županija smjeÅ”teni u sre diÅ”njem dijelu hrvatskoga panonskog prostora, njihov prometni značaj nij e doÅ”ao do punog izražaja zbog nedovoljne razvijenosti infrastrukture ces tovnoga i željezničkog prometa. Najznačajniji hrvatski i međunarodni ces tovni i željeznički koridori u povezivanju Istoka i Zapada prelaze posavskim i podravskim područjem. Although the town of Bjelovar and the Bjelovar-Bilogora County are located in the middle part of the Croatian Pannonian area, their traffic significance has not been fully shown due to insufficiently developed infrastructure of the road and the railroad traffic. The most important Croatian and international road and railroad corridors to connect the East and the West cross the Sava River basin and the Drava River basin area. Main routes go from the North towards the South, from Budapest, through Zagreb and towards Rijeka, and from Osijek towards Ploče. Higher quality road and railroad connections from PĆ©cs through Bjelovar, Zagreb, Banja Luka and GradiÅ”ka, through Daruvar towards Varaždin can considerably improve the traffic significance of Bjelovar and the Bjelovar Bilogora County in the future. Quality road connections such as Bjelovar ā€“ Čazma ā€“ Petrinja ā€“ Krnjak - Ogulin could lower the traffic intensity of the existing roads from Hungary through Varaždin and Zagreb towards Kvarner bay

The author deals with the scope of freight transport and its structure on the Yugoslav Railways as well as the reported transit volumes for the period of 1985-1988. The paper then furnishes data on palletization and containerization on the Yugoslav Railways in conjunction with piggy-back transport on European and particularly Austrian Railways, with reference to the information on the Munich-Ljubljana route transport volumes. The author provides recommendations of the Yugoslav Railways into the international system of piggy -back transport.</p

Modern organization of traffic sets the prerequisite of introduction of the management/information system to create the possibilities for the application of new scientific propositions in the management of the traffic process. Considering the "interactive aspect" in the operation of rail traffic, quality- aspected (timely) compilation and processing of respective data is of major importance in application of new engineering/technological solutions. This paper is designed to refer to the need for continuous research activities and introduction of new methods and aspects of work.</p

The Croatian Railways as a member of the International Railway Union (UIC) and an integral part of the European railway system of lines have both the right and obligation of taking part in the unified traffic policy of Europe with the ambition of all European nations drawing benefits from the prudently managed railway system through optimum solutions in order to enable each transport aspect, the railways in particular, the manifestation of its advantages. International operations of the railways become increasingly important with the growth of the internal European market. Considering the fact that the forthcoming period brings the promise of favourable time for a vigorous development of the railways, the Croatian Railways as a member of the UIC are faced with major assignments on the program of accommodation to the requirements of the EC, i.e. the European transport system. The Croatian Railways must also establish and evaluate the priorities of activities from engineering, technological, management and commercial aspect. These should be fully coordinated with the European ones with adequate application of information science i.e. computerization, and all other modern technologies. The execution of schedules should be impeccable, strictly eliminating all delays. Train operation speeds should be increased in freight transport with maximum introduction of unit trains.</p

The Capacity of Conflict Points Between Double-Track Lines

The objective of the railway is to offer high level of transportservices, i.e. the quality which is competitive to other transportmodes, but which minimises its internal costs at the same time.In order to increase the capacity of transport services andreduce the costs, splitting of trains between different categoriesof transport on separate railway lines will be more and more appliedin the 21" centtuy. Unfortunately, even in the developedcountries there will be lines or line sections where mixed trafficwill be cmTied, and in developing countries this will often be thecase even on the main trunk lines. Therefore, a topical issue is to establish the capacity andchoose the right solution. The problem becomes more complexin cases when two double-track lines with mixed traffic need tobe connected and the restructuring of traffic implemented. Atthe same time the exits to two new double-track lines with thespecific train categories have to be ensured and the requiredquality of transport services maintained. In this paper, the impact the capacity has on quality is discussedand some basic characteristics of a model, which enablesthe research of the conflict points capacity, i.e. of convergingand diverging points of two double-track lines is given. Although, there are some analytical elements in this model, it isessentially simulation which enables us to carry out tests underdifferent conditions, to study different variants and to systematisedifferent indicators and make conclusions

Role of railway traffic in public urban and suburban passenger transport (example of the City of Zagreb)

One of the basic problems of all the mid-size and bigger European cities is permanent increase in the demand for passenger transport services, but also increase in individual automobile traffic. Apart from environmental pollution such urban mobility results in constant road congestions in urban areas, endangering also the safety of traffic participants. All the European cities face the mentioned problems, which directly affects the quality of living there, attractiveness and economic development. In order to increase mobility at the same time, and to reduce the congestion, traffic accidents and environmental pollution, it is necessary to reduce and limit the individual traffic in urban and suburban traffic systems, and increase the share of railway, which has a series of direct and indirect comparative advantages over other traffic modes (very low harmful emissions, lower energy consumption, higher speed which allows significant savings in travel time, stimulation of suburban zones development, etc.). Therefore, the railway should have a dominant role in urban and suburban passenger transport, i.e. it should be the fundamental part of the system, which is upgraded by other subsystems. The paper studies the role and significance of the railways in public urban and suburban passenger transport in the City of Zagreb. Apart from the analysis of the existing situation in public urban transport in the City of Zagreb and the current role of railway in the public urban transport (PUT) system, which has not been sufficiently used yet, special emphasis is given on the projection of the future role of railways in PUT flow, including the new routes which would along with the existing infrastructure allow its greater share and a more significant role in the PUT system
