    A survey study on the effect of Ratrijagarana on health status in night shift workers

    Background: Sleep is a natural physiological phenomenon of human life. Research is revealing that sleep is a dynamic activity, during which many processes vital to health and wellbeing take place. Sleep deprivation can cause ill effects both physically and psychologically. Out of total global employees, nearly 1/5th of them are shift workers. In the present scenario, our society demands round the clock services in order to meet their needs. The present study was opted to analyse the health status of the individuals who do Ratrijagarana due to their work pattern. Objective: To Evaluate the effect of Ratrijagarana on Health Status in night shift workers. Methods: 208 night shift workers were selected for this Survey study. WHO-QOL BREF Questionnaire and Questionnaire on Ratrijagarana was used for analysing the health status of individuals (as per inclusion and exclusion criteria). Results: Maximum of 28.8% had 56 percent of physical health status, 27.9% had 56 percent of psychological health status, 30.3% had 75 percent of socio-economic health status, 30.8% had 50 percent of environmental health status. The Chi-square test is significant (p<0.0005) with WHO Bref questionnaires. Conclusion: Ratrijagarana has an impact on the health status of the individual by decreasing the physical, psychological and socio-economic health. Circadian misalignment is the cause for Shift Work Sleep Disorder (SWSD) and lead to Cognitive risks, Health risks and Social Risks of the individuals

    Phyto physico-chemical profile of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera Dunal)

    Introduction: The present article deals with study of phytochemical analysis of Withania somnifera Dunal roots. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera Dunal - Solanaceae), The use of Ashwagandha (WS) is increasing due to a number of chemical constituents present in are found useful for promotion of health. Important bio-active constituents of Ashwagandha root powder are alkaloids, tannins and flavonoid and phenolic compound helps to promote the health benefits. Objective: Evolution of Physico- chemical and phyto chemical analysis of Ashwagandha (WS) powder. Materials and methods: The current investigation deals with extraction and detection or screening of active phytochemical compounds from different extracts of Withania somnifera root. Pharmacognostic studies, Physico-chemical studies, Preliminary phytochemical studies and HPTLC was carried out. Result and conclusion: The result drown were 2% foreign mater was determined. Loss on drying 1.6%, total ash obtained was 9%, acid insoluble ash was 1% and water soluble extractive was 12% and Alcohol soluble extractive was 13%. The phytochemical investigation revealed the presence of various phytochemical constituents such as alkaloids, flavonoids, carbohydrate, Steroids and Saponin Glycoside. HPTLC chromatograms of methanol extracts obtained from root of Withania somnifera revealed that higher quality of with a nolides was present. Hence the root of Withania somnifera was considered to mostly prefer for commercial preparation of drugs

    Arsha (haemorrhoids) is an ailment that affects all economical groups of population. Though the disease is within the limits of management, it has its own complications like severe haemorrhage, inflammation and thrombosis, by which a patient gets severe pain and is unable to continue his routine work. Haemorrhoids are inflamed and swollen veins around the anus and lower part of rectum. They usually occur as a result of altered dietary pattern, altered life style, genetics, and pregnancy. One of the most common ailments of the rectum, affecting as much as half the population by the age group of 50. Suffering from haemorrhoids is not only painful but embarrassing as well. They may be classified as either internal or external. Many not only want to know how to heal haemorrhoids but how to heal them fast and naturally. The authors review the role of Ayurveda in the management of haemorrhoids (Arshas). It has been proved by scientific studies that botanicals improve microcirculation, capillary flow and to strength of the surrounding connective tissues of anus and lower rectum.
