    A Role of Shirodhara in Posterior Canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (PC-BPPV) with special reference to Bhrama - A Case Report

    Introduction: This is a case report of 45 year old male who stepped into our OPD with complaints of dizziness during walking and heaviness of head since 7 months. The subject was not a known case of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, stroke or any cardiac problems. The Pure Tone Eudiometry results showed bilateral mild sensory neural hearing loss. But the subject had no symptoms of Tinnitus to be included in the vicinity of Meniere's disease. The Dix-Hallpike test was positive for left ear and confirmed the diagnosis as left posterior canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (PC-BPPV). Materials and Methods: The subject who approached Shalakya Tantra OPD of GAMC, with symptoms of dizziness, was systematically reviewed and intervention was planned for Doshic components involved in Bhrama. Results: The subject showed considerable improvement subjectively as shown by Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) score. Discussion: The repositional maneuvers prescribed in the BPPV, though effective in most of the cases, recurrence is noted in one third of the patients. This study sheds light on holistic treatments like Shirodhara told in the Ayurveda classics that could be integrated with the maneuvers thereby improving the quality of life with no potential risk of side effects

    Ayurvedic understanding and management of Trigeminal Neuralgia w.s.r. to Anantavaata - A Case Study

    Trigeminal Neuralgia is one of the painful disorders involving fifth cranial nerve, causes severe unilateral pain over regions supplied by the branches of trigeminal nerve associated with tempero mandibular joint stiffness. Trigeminal neuralgia nearly can be correlated to Anantavaata, one of the 11 types of Shirorogas explained by Acharya Sushruta and is Vaatapradhaana Tridoshaja Vyadhi. Present study is conducted to know the efficacy of ayurvedic line of management in TN. A female patient of age 46 years, diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia was treated with allopathy medications. But did not get satisfactory results. Hence patient approached our hospital and got Vaatahara and Brihmana line of management involving Nasya with Karpasasthyaadi Taila for 7 days, Shiropichu and Karnapoorana with Ksheerabala Taila, Gandoosha with Murchita Tila Taila and oral medications. Patient’s complaints were assessed before and after treatment with VAS pain scale and verbal descriptor scale for TMJ stiffness After Follow up patient had got relieved with the complaints and got satisfactory results with ayurvedic line of management

    Pain is one of the chief factors to visit a doctor. In today’s scenario low back pain is one among the emerging pains faced by 90% of population in their lifetime. Low back pain presents with different symptoms among them, the one with radiating to lower extremities unilaterally or bilaterally is termed as Gridhrasi. Gridhrasi is Shoola Pradhana Nanatamaja Vatavyadhi. The gait of a person resembles with that of Gridhra or Vulture. The condition presents with Ruk, Toda, Stambha, Spandana in Sphik Pradesha and radiates downwards to Kati, Prusta, Uru, Janu, Jangha, and Pada causing Sakthishepanigraha. Vata-Kaphaja type of Gridhrasi involves above symptoms along with Tandra, Gaurava, Arochaka, Bhaktadvesha, Staimitya. Gridhrasi can be compared with Sciatica. Vaitarana Basti is effective in Vata-Kaphaja Vikara’s as well as Shoola Chikitsa. Hence in the case study a male patient of age 28 years presenting with signs and symptoms of Gridhrasi was treated especially focused on acute pain management

    According to Ayurveda, Vata is responsible for formation of all body parts. Vayu is said to be Sarva Dhatu Vyuhakara and Kartagarbhakritam. It means that Vayu is responsible for the regular function and amount of Dhatus in body. In Ayurveda there is no direct reference of keratoconus, based on the symptoms it can be considered as Vataja Timira. This can be correlated to advanced condition of keratoconus, considering Dosha involvement Vatahara and Bruhmana line of treatment in the form of Nasya, Tarpana and Pindi is more beneficial in keratoconus

    Introduction: This is a case report of a 15-year-old male child complained of Fever, Pain and Difficulty in swallowing since 2 days. On Examination observed Congested soft palate, uvula, bilateral enlarged tonsils and confirmed the diagnosis as Tundikeri (Tonsillitis). In the present study Gandusha with Apamargadi Taila is selected for Clinical Trail. Materials and Methods: A 15-year-old male child suffering from the signs and symptoms of Tundikeri was taken for the study from Shalakya tantra opd of SJIIM, Bengaluru. He was treated with Apamargadi Taila Gandusha for a time period of 7days. Result: There was considerable improvement both subjectively and objectively. Discussion: Tundikeri is the Bhedya roga and should be treated like Kaphaja Rohini according to Asthanga Sangraha. Kaphaja Rohini Chikitsa includes Swedana, Lekhana, Pratisarana, Gandusha, Kavala, and Nasya. All drugs should have the properties such as Lekhana, Shothahara, Sandhaniya, Ropana, Rakta Sthambhana and Vedana Sthapana. The drugs used in the Apamargadi Taila also possess the properties like Bhedana, Lekhana, Ropana, Shoshana, Sthambana. Therefore, the present study was planned to evaluate the effect of Apamargadi Taila Gandusha in the management of Tundikeri (Tonsillitis)

    Psoriasis is one among the most common clinical conditions encountered in day today clinical practice. Eka-Kushtha has greater resemblance with Psoriasis. The clinical features of Eka-Kushtha mentioned by Acharya Kashyapa represent remission, relapse and seasonal variation which are present in Psoriasis. Current treatment modalities have their own limitation and side effects, so significant result can’t be expected. There is a need for safe and effective treatment for psoriasis, where Ayurveda plays an important role. The basic principles and unique treatment modalities of Ayurveda i.e. Shodhana, Shamana etc. have long lasting results and provide better life to patients. A male patient aged 28 years reported to our department OPD, with signs and symptoms of Eka-Kushtha since 1 years, as small round erythematous scaly patches over groin, face, both the hands and legs with burning sensation, itching and dryness over affected lesion.
